I have an old Remington .22 that is a Model 341 P. I believe it was made in the 40's. It appears to be tapped for scope bases, but I have no idea if there are any mounts that I could find to fit it. It has long barrel and is quite accurate. I was thinking a little 4x would be a lot of fun on it. The reason I'm not real sure about mounts is because the top of the action/receiver is rounded. I've attached a picture so hopefully I can get some ideas from yall. Any suggestions are much appreciated!

Brownell's lists Weaver 2-piece bases 43 for the rear and 42 for the front...
#955-010-043
#955-010-042
respectively, at $4.05 each... any number of rings can be tied into them...

Also, I believe the 341 was a product of the '30s rather. than '40s.

Hey Art,
Thank you very much for both the information on the bases and history I definitely appreciate it!

Hey Art,
I notice that these mounts have two screws in each mount. It looks as if my rifle is only tapped for one screw in front and one in back. Does this make any sense? Maybe it was tapped, but not done right? Or can I still use these particular mounts just with one screw each?

For a bolt-action 22 I would not hesitate to use them with one screw each and a dab of epoxy... getting the extra holes drilled would be the correct way to do it though...

I know I have seen side mounted scopes on that series of rifle. If you look around a bit you would likely have them, buut they would require drilling and tapping the side of the receiver.

I was thinking I could get by with one screw and some epoxy as you suggested considering it is a .22. I'm curious if I could drill and tap it myself, however I think if I can suffice with one screw front and back that is the route I will go for now. Do you have any idea or suggestions on what size rings I would need. There is a little 4X Nikon Prostaff rimfire scope for 100 bucks including rings that I'm looking at.

Thanks,

Ring size is based on the tube size of your scope. Most rimfire scopes are 7/8" or 1" tubes.

It is possible the spacing of the holes in the action will not allow a variable or other large scope to be used without offset rings. Offsets do not rise straight up like standard rings, but rather have a dogleg that offsets the rings by an inch or so. One or two can be used and the scope mounting options increase by a bunch.

Actually, most 30's and 40's rimfire scopes were 3/4" tubes. There are usually tons of old Weavers on eBay and usually go for reasonable money. 7/8" rings are hard to come by, but the 3/4" are still readily available from most makes. Even an inexpensive Bushnell 1 1/2-4 1/4 like this would serve you quite well.

Must have been the tanking I did! Do not know where that came from... thanks for correcting my oversight.

Hey guys, thanks for the info. I guess I should have also asked more so about the height of the rings. I've ordered the bases so I'm going to play around with a couple of old weavers I have, and if I get clearance of the bolt and safety, then I think I will purchase that little 4x Nikon that comes with the rings. If that doesn't work, maybe one of the older weavers will, I was just thinking the new Nikon would be a lot more clear.
Thanks,
Conrad

That little Bushnell I linked to is quite bright. It is a 1" tube and fairly short. For about $40.00 it would do you proud. Nothing wrong with your choice, just another option.
