Picked up a Model 98 Mauser 06 24" Foremost model 6600 Made in England. Looks like a Parker Hale copy. Recv. is plum colored very nice shape. Any info would be apreciated.

kk,
IIRC "Foremost" was a trade name used by J.C. Penney Co. I am old enough to remember when they sold guns. As did Sears, Roebuck and Montgomery Wards.
I have to agree that it looks like a Parker-Hale. Likely that's what it is... But that's only a guess. In the back of the Guns Parts Co catalog there is a store brand crossover list. I just checked it and it doesn't show that particular model. Mostly just Savages, Marlins, etc...
Sorry I'm not much help...

Not really to much trading fodder at this time. Besides a couple of '06's I start at .35 and go up. I dont even own a .22. wifey has some though.

That looks exactly like the rifle imported by Firearms International as the Alpine. Look in the older Gun Digest catalogue section . These were made on the Spanish M98 Star actions . The one I had was a 7 mm Rem Mag with a 22 " barrel .It was very accurate after I bedded the stock.

KK: i believe that the receivers were made in Spain. if take the gun out of the stock there may be "Spain" stamped on the side of bottom of the receiver tang. i have seen penny's foremost gun like this. they seem to work well. the red color receiver is from either a reblue or original receiver being head treated. not much can be done about that. they were hunting guns and usually worked well. good luck with it!

No marks on recv. tang. There is another Crown stamp on the side of action. Apears it is made in England. Looks all original not a reblue. Even has original Green & Red paint on the stock for safety indicator.
