looking for info on the Ruger 77/50.

Can't even see one on Rugers website?

Dose anyone have or had one? You like?? How's it shoot? whats it shoot??

Ruger discontinued the rifle 3 years ago. Ruger never make much of a market impact with their ML. You won't see many used as they did not sell very many except on close out.

The Doe above was bedded in a thorn brush patch in the bottom of a deep swale in the middle of some fairly open hardwoods. I couldn't get down in any closer without spooking her. Ranged at 202 yards, twisted turrets, and sniped her. Typically I can get three to touch at 100ish yards....



With the original #11 ignition I have stuck with Goex FFg and T/C saboted 240 grain Hornady XTP. I use true weighed charges of 110 grains....

On aside, I tuned the trigger to 1 3/4 pounds, full length bedded the action and barrel, lapped the bore, and had turrets installed on the M8 6X Leupy.

I have one and really like it. I use the factory #11 breech plug and have had no problems with it. The best load at the moment is 85 gr FFFg T7 with Hornady 250 gr .452 SST or XTP in a Harvester 50/45 smooth black short sabot using CCI #11 caps.

I have a 77/50 Officer's Model straight English style walnut stock. Got it when they were blowing them out. shoots the Barnes 245gr spitfires real well. I have a M8 3x on it, it's a nice setup. I also have the musket cap adapter Ruger made for it. I contacted them to get another but they are no longer available

the 77/50 is a very nice gun.......and like the example above,a very nice platform to aftermarket and customize if you want to.mine is a pretty much stock 77/50 all weather stainless model with a custom timney trigger.been considering upgrading the firing pin spring a notch or two for quicker lock time.i have the #11 and musket cap breeches but presently use the 209 conversion with remington caps and 100gr T7 ffg and 260gr harvester scorpian PT gold.Shoots very fast.It has some kick...hold on tight...accuracy is a dream.cleans up nicely during field use with 2 light spit patches.
it's nice to see others enjoying thier 77/50 too.at first there was very little interest in this gun.not much information or feedback.nice to see that's beginning to change.-Ruger did those of us a favor that bought one by stopping production-.a nice collectors item and will be even harder to find one in the years to come i imagine.a very nicely balanced rifle that doesnt weigh you down in the field.

great choice of words, now our muzzleloaders will be classified as sniper rifles, along with the 30-30

#3 pretty much describes how I hunt deer, and most other things.......I even try to fish that way to some degree.

I might now go bust a cap with shoot one of my assault weapons.......para-military semi-automatic firearms.

My friend has one of these on his pawn shop shelf. It is the stright stock officer's model. I understand that the breech plug and the nipple on the Ruger ML is one solid piece. It has been my only concern with the rifle, I have a Knight ML that is serviceable enough, but wouldn't mind adding another.

Where do you get the 209 conversion from?

I too have a Knight ML. They're a good rifle, but the stock reminds me of an entry level kids .22. Mine is accurate and easy to clean, just not much to look at.... It must be a lot more trouble than I know to put a little fluting on the pistol grip and comb...

The Rugers have always been a favorite of mine. Good egronomics and looks... the only report I ever read on one bantered on about how hard they are to clean because the breach plug was not removable.. is the nipple non-removable as well? That doesn't make sense to me.

I'd love to see one of these in person.

The breech plug is removable. Ruger had two types of breech plugs, #11 and musket cap. A 209 conversion was available through Cabelas and was made in Canada. Cabela's catalog no longer carries them. I don't have the name handy but I saw the 209 conversion manufacturer selling them on one of the auction sites.

Ah, found it. The original manufacturer for the 209 conversion kit is Armurier Lavaltrie Inc. I don't see them selling them at this time on GunBroker.

If you need/like to shoot iron sights, the receiver is already tapped for the Williams peep sight. It is a definite improvement over the folding rear leaf.

I picked up the blued synthetic stocked M77/50 when CDNN had them for $200. I've also got the 209 conversion kit installed, and found a prefit Limbsaver pad that fit the stock great. Used it to great effect on a nice cow elk this last fall.

I've had my Ruger 77/50 since 1998 it has a conversion kit in it and it is walnut and blue, very nice reliable firearm, to bad they don't make them any more, never know what you have till it's gone.
