Is this a do it yourself job, or does it need to go back to Leupold?

How does the M1 work? Diffrence between it and the target turret?

And finally, what would it cost to put an M1 on 3.5x10x40?

I don't have a scope with M1 turrets, but I have checked with Leupold and you/we are looking at about $140 for both windage and elevation- $99 for elevation only IIRC. No, this is not a "do it yourself" job. The way I understand it is that the erectors(the part that moves the reticle) has to be replaced as well. The target turret is a little smaller knob that can be covered with a cap, the M1's are not able to be covered and appear to be more "durable." I think one can get screw on knobs from Kenton Ind. that someone may know more about. Hope I have answered some of your ?s. Jason

it's not a DIY job ... send the scope back to Leupold and tell them what you want ... a single M1 elevation knob will run you about $80 ... for both elevation and windage knobs you're looking about $120 ...

the M1 is simply a very robust target turret ... works just like the covered target knobs, but is typically considered more user friendly due to it's size and ergos ...

I have opted to only add M1 elevation knobs to my hunting scopes because I'm not going to be dialing for wind ... but that's up to you whether or not you want just the elevation knob, or both ...

Good info. Thanks fellas!

Any idea on where you can read up on how they work and how to set them up? The website is useless for that

In my pile of projects is a 6X42 w/target turrets. Can I transplant the Windage turret off the 6X onto another 6X (in the Elevation location) or is that also a back to Loopie deal?

Here we go again!

Stick's primer on turrets

I just got a scope back today- I asked them to install ONLY the elevation knob and the charge was like $85. They installed both knobs but still only charged me the $85. Their bad, not mine.

The M1s are 1/4 MOA robust tactical style turrets with no covers. The target turrets are similar to the regular adjustments but just a lot taller so they are easier to see. The M1s on my scope are so tight you need gloves to turn them (almost) maybe they will soften over time.

the tightness is due to the rubber o-rings on the turret rubbing against the little skirt housing they fit into. You can either try to 'grease' the o-rings, or get one size smaller/thinner to relieve some of the pressure they are causing.

You'll see what I mean if you remove one of the turrets, slip the o-ring off, reinstall the turret and spin it ... no resistance other than the ball & detent mechanism that holds the 'clicks' ...
