A little while back I started a thread about hunting with a muzzleloader and what is currently the best out there and White's were one that was mentioned. So yesterday I did a little looking around on the net and found Doc White's site and decided that if I can find one, I want a Thunderbolt in 504 caliber. Does anyone know a good source where I can find Doc's muzzleloaders other than his site? I did send him an e-mail to see if he had any or could get one.

I have the White's Whitetail in 50 cal and it is one great muzzle-loader. I have it set up with peep sight for hunting in states that doesn't allow scopes pellet's or sabot ,like Colorado. I use the White Super Slug with Pyrodex P very accurate in this rifle. White muzzle-loaders are designed to use Pyrodex P Powder. You look around on the Web and you should be able to find one for sale. Doc's site is a good place to start.

No offence, but a Thunderbolt is the LAST White I would ever consider. A Super91 or a Model 97 would be way ahead on my list. The Thunderbolt is HEAVY and, unless you want to fool with Doc's 336 priming system, is troublesome to operate.

Doc's priming system might allow you to use the rifle effectively even with BH209 powder - but the model that I affectionately call the "Blunderblot" has too many negatives for me.

ps: MLKeith has a Thunderbolt that I'm sure he would gladly sell.

I read the info on his website about the Thunderbolt I didn't see anything on there where it was a pia to operate. Here's what I read on his site.

Either way, I'm looking for a modern rifle in 504 cal should someone happen to find one, they are somewhat scarce from what i've seen.

AkMtnHntr, if you find a Thunderbolt - MAKE CERTAIN it has the reduced length firing pin and a lock screw on the hammer shroud. Let's just say I was intimately involved with the evolution of the Thunderbolt.

I would recommend you check with Lou (Ourway77) via olblueeyes1937 AT aol.com . He has two very nice specimens for sale at excellent prices.

"#1 White W Series Super 91 504 Caliber, Blue with 3x9-40 Vari-x 1 Leupold scope, Rings and Bases with scope $475 shipped. $325 W/o Scope and rings. Black and grey Laminated stock w/sights.

#2 White SS Model 97 ultra mag, 50 Caliber, Rings and bases. Has 3200 Bushnell Fire Fly 3X9X40 scope, No Sights. has laminated Black and Gray stock $475 w/scope, and $325 w/o rings and scope.
Both are in immaculate, new condition."

He's a good guy and will treat you right.

According to Steve Brown, Doc White's partner, they are trying to resume building of his muzzleloaders sometime next year. Here's his reply to my e-mail:

"We are working on getting the company back on its feet. My partners have all left and Doc and myself are moving it ahead. I have attached our retail parts lists. I can get you parts and bullets. I hope to start producing rifles next year. The Thunderbolt has been very popular in the past. I would hope that we could get some out the door for next fall."

Good news for us White muzzleloader fans!
