I've got a Savage Mdl. 16 with the plastic stock and blind magazine that I would like to put a recoil pad on, I'm thinking Sims, or Pachmyer. Anyone put one of these on this gun or have any recommendations for a custom fit or grind to fit pad? A call to Savage Arms proved fruitless. Thanks.

270, I had the Mod 16 WW in a 300WSM a few years back. One of the hardest kicking little rifles I've ever shot. That sob kicked harder than any 300 Mag I've ever owned. Even kicked harder than my turkey guns! Anyway, I couldn't find a recoil pad that fit that particular stock so I printed off the diagrams from Sims sight and placed the stock on each one. The only one that fit right was the TC Omega pad, but it had to be altered. It has a raised portion that fits inside the TC stock and one of the holes didn't line up. I sanded the raised part off, drilled a new hole, and it fit just fine. That pad was a big help on that little rifle and made it much more pleasant to shoot.

That said, I wouldn't go through that trouble, just buy a prefit Kick-Eez pad. Model 118 works on the syn model 16/116 stocks.

Good Luck

Reloader7RM:

Thanks for the info. This gun is a 300 WSM also and yes the recoil is a little brisk. I've shot a 270 Win. in this gun and it isn't bad but the WSM with a bigger bullet lets you know when you touch it off.

I've had trouble with the Sims pads. They seem to be defective as they have a tendency to stick to the floor of my gunsafe, like its melting to the carpet in there. I've read of many others that have been having the same problem. I don't know if its just the Savage pads or all the Sims line. Might want to search around a bit for confirmation. They do dampen the recoil quite well aside from the melting problem.
