New rumble eminating from the halls of the SHOT show that Winchester may bring out a Model 70 to commemorate Jack O'Connor for their 2009 special edition. Of course, it will be a .270.

The really exciting part is that the discussions are that it will be modeled after Jack's pet Model 70, #2 of his pair of them. This will include both stock and metal. Target price on the order of $1,100. The original O'Connor rifle is by Al Biesen.

Expect this will be a big hit. Winchester folks might be encouraged by some words from those of us who would support this.

The Biesen comb is too high for me.
I used to own one of his rifles, built for Mrs. O'Connor.

Just leave off the tacky "engraving".

haven't heard about the commemorative one but i visited the o'connor center last summer and was told they were going to raffle (for the second year in a row) a custom built 270, just like jacks built by 3 separate smiths (wood, metal, engraving), in summer 09. i believe each ticket was going to be 25.00, or 4 for 100.00. i'll certainly be looking for the commemorative one in the future. thanks

I saw the first gun at the O'Connor center and it was awfully nice, but probably a little short in the LOP for me.

Will it have the Jack O'Connor trigger assembly?

Am sure the commemorative rifle will only be chambered in .270; don't know of a "JO'C" trigger assembly - expect the standard M70 set up as currently produced.

The second raffle gun tickets will go on sale soon...not sure when the raffle will be held. Link to pictures of the rifle and the Biesen site:

FYI - here is link to the Jack O'Connor Hunting Heritage and Education Center:

The place is great, I attended the opening ceremony June 4, 2006, and it was grand. Worth a visit to the dyed in the wool O'Connor fans; a pilgramege really.

I am not going to loose any sleep at the rate they are coming out with all their other rifles did any one at the shot show question them about that? If your only talking about 1 or 2 rifles maybe we will see them grin

If there is any proof of a man in a hunt it is not whether he killed a deer or elk but how he hunted it.
