I have a lightened model 7. Lighteight stock, machined bolt shroud, fluted barrel and bolt, skeletized bolt handle and mag box, and LW talleys. All up with sling and 2-7x32 scope it is 5.8 lbs. What else can be done? Its a bit of an obsession now. I was considering a titanium firing pin and aluminum bolt shroud. Where do I find these parts?

Not titanium but alloy with an SS tip. I have several of these on my 700s and they work well. Scroll down for the Mod 7 assys: Gre-Tan Firing Pins/Shrouds

I have and carry a model 7 ss in 308.

I can't imagine trying to reduce the weight of it.

Kinda splitting hairs and wasting money.

thommon, when I started the project I was modeling it after the Kifaru rambling rifle and Corlanes rocky mountain rifle. Both are extremely light rifles based on model 7 actions, designed for back pack hunting. I have done all of it myself except for the barrel fluting. I have taken 2+ lbs off the original set up using the same scope and sling. When I am in the mountains chasing Stones sheep and goats around, I dont consider it a waste of money. When I hold a partners rifle, I am glad I dont have to carry them.
