Hi Folks:

There is a rash of email virus and spam activity going on. I have strong suspicions about who is behind it, but, to be honest, using this program and some good anti-virus programs, the most the bad guys can do is annoy ... no real harm. And it's FREE. I have no business connections whatsoever with these folks. My interest is a healthy Campfire community.

Here's the link:

http://www.mailwasher.net/

This program allows you to see/preview and delete your email ON THE SERVER, before you download it to your local machine. It immediately flags viruses, and allows you to very easily "check off" and add to a "blacklist" the email addresses of people sending you junk. The next time an email comes in from that addy, it is flagged and dealt with as the previous email from that addy. Also, it allows you to send a "bounce" message in response to any incoming email, which simulates an invalid email address response coming from your machine to the person sending you junk. This gets you off SPAM lists over time, I've found, since your addy appears invalid.

You then hit "Process Mail," all the bad stuff is deleted from the server, bounce emails sent, bad list updated, and THEN you download your mail onto your local machine. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" /> Takes seconds, and WORKS!! It is also much, much easier and convenient than the Tools in Outlook or Express.

Be sure to go into your Tools menu in Oulook or Express and set your Auto Send/Receive timeframe to zero or something ridiculously huge so that the program never sends/receives automatically. From then on, you check your mail on the server with Mailwasher, Process Mail, then hit send/receive. The bad stuff never even gets to your local machine. Back it up with good anti-virus software on your local machine, enable email protection on that software, and you're in tall cotton.

Hit 'em where it hurts boys.

I recommend this to EVERYONE! My life has gotten much easier since I started using this stuff.

Rick

Thanks Rick, I'll give it a shot.

I've been using this for many years, it is by far the best out there. Takes a little getting used to as far as checking email in Mailwasher first, but that's the beauty of the software.

My ISP is using the Barracuda Spam Firewall to filter mail before it gets to me. I wonder if this would conflict with it.

I wish they taught computer stuff back in the 80's. This is gibberish. The only way I can fight a complete stoppage of moving to new topics on 24HCF is to turn off the computer and turn it back on.
