Facts are facts and I reckon you find it handy to dismiss same.

As per always,feel free to rub my nose in an inaccuracy stated by moi.

TryMe;

Get Ringman to expound to you on the magical, trajectory flattening virtues of super-high rings. Enlightening, to say the least.

Someone would have to PM the dumb bastard her first clue.

She "knows" just enough to screw things up.

Hi Huntinghard, I know just what you are talking about. When I get a scope jump into my face, it can really induce a flinch.
Personally, I find the European scopes to have too short an eye relief for me and when clients bring me a magnum rifle with a Swaro or Zeiss, I get a flinch when doing load development. I believe that Loopy, NF and Sightron may be your best options. That said, I found that the Leupold VX111 2-8x32(I hope thats right) seemed very short when I tested one a while back.

Kiwi_Nate,

I just checked my 12-42X56 NightForce again incase I lost an inch from the measure to the writing. The best I could come up with is 1 7/8" of eyebrow clearance. The others I measured are definately better for eyebrow clearance.

Another topic: I could not discern any difference between the quality of the images between the NightForce and the 4 1/2-30X50 Bushnell 6500 when both were set on 30X. For eyebrow clearance I would take 2 3/4" over 1 7/8" anytime on something bigger than a .25-06.

Thanks Ringman. Perhaps I shouldn't have generalised so much- the NF eye relief length you supplied would be way way too short for me. I think the 5.5-22 NXS NF scope has 3.9" relief, would be nice if somebody could double check and post if this this is indeed correct. The Leupold MK4 LRT 5.5-20 is also generous. The Sightron Big Sky models I fancied were the 4.5-14x44 Mil dot (RRP is $627)and the 6-24x50/ 30mm tube mild dot (RRP$806).

I find the Bushnell and Weaver to be very much the same as the Euro jobs, too short for me. Again, can't remember the specific models but the last Weaver I tested was definately a Grand Slam, the bushnell was also a high end model. I found the Tasco's to be the worst of all scopes for use on magnum power rifles.

I do have clients that don't notice what I consider to be short eye relief so to some extent, ideal eye relief must be a personel thing. I think some folk don't mind if a scope comes close to their eye during recoil. A bit like recoil tolerance levels I suppose. When I am looking for a scope for a magnum powered rifle, the main factors are internal strength to handle recoil without small changes in POI and the eye relief. I've never been one to worry about clarity too much because I also have a good set of Bino's- these are epecially essential for guiding/ success rates.
