Anyone,

I need help on eye relief numbers for a few scopes. I don't need manufacturers data, just measured data. My dilemma is that I have a beanfield rifle in 300 WBY that I don't mind the recoil of but don't like the scope very lightly grazing my eyebrow when shooting offhand. It had a Zeiss conquest 6.5-20X50 on it with advertised 3.5 inches eye relief. I don't know what the true eye relief is since I've already removed it. I was thinking of getting the Swarovski Z6 2.5-15X56 which advertises a 3.75 inches eye relief, but JB reported a 3.3 inch measured eye relief which leaves me shorter than the zeiss and afraid to spend a lot of money to find myself short on eye relief. I don't want a fixed power and I want a large objective and decent glass. I would prefer a constant fixed eye relief over one that varies with magnification like Leupold's. I like to shoot about 12-14 X.

Here's what I was considering, any real measurements or models I have left out over 3.5 inches eye relief and 6 inches ring spacing would be appreciated. I think S&B had a new 2.5-10x50 in a 1" tube SFP coming out with 4" eye relief but I haven't heard much. I prefer SFP too. I'd like a hair more power than the Zeiss 3-9x40 conquest. weight really is not an issue.

If you change the term "eye relief" to eyebrow cleanance you might get more help. I measured several of mine and get different distances for different brands. If you want, I will post my measurements.

I guess what I need is to be able to relate it to my Zeiss conquest 6.5-20x50's distance from my eyebrow/nose bridge. I need something longer and was looking to relate measured eye relief to advertised eye relief. I never stopped to think that some lenses may be deeper in the scope leaving the tube closer to my eye (eyebrow clearance)and not the lens. Now I'm lost. I would appreciate your measurements, thanks.

I finally finished with the day and got to measure some of these scopes. Best to worse............

Bushnell 6500 4 1/2-30X x4 1/2=2 3/4" 30X=2 3/4"
Weaver V24 6-24X 6X=2 3/8" 24X=2"
Sightron II 3-15X 3X=2 1/8" 15X=1 15/16"
Tasco 6-24X 6X=2 1/8" 24X=1 13/16"
Tasco 4-16X 4X=2 3/8" 16X=1 7/8"

Four of my friends told me the Tascos are clearer than the Sightron II. They were allowed to adjust to thier hearts' content. I thought the Sightron II was better than the Tascos. But I paid $75 for one and $99 for the other Tasco, and I paid $411 for the Sightron II. Maybe that influences my eyes. I hope this info is benificial.

I didin't realize the Tascos are as good as they are or the NightForce is as bad as it is. Never the less, I don't have to concern myself with getting hit by the NightForce since it is on my heavy barreled .224 MBOC.

A 6x42 on a 300Wby will get you to 1K easily,with plenty of ele to spare.

Though it seems you are bent on pissing up a rope,irregardless of common sense and known quantities.

While you're at it try to cooperate with the thread. The poster clearly said he wants a higher power scope than what you suggest.

WTF? someone pizz in your wheaties? I have plenty of fixed power scopes and understand their merits. I just want a variable on this rifle due to long distances with not much time for glassing in beanfields. Often I have just enough time before the buck has cut the corner of the woods about 440 yds and I want to make sure it has 4 points on one side. Tried with binoculars before and couldn't get the shot off in time before it dissapeared. This spot often has deer on a quarter mile fence row where I have taken several bucks in good daylight. The problem comes when it gets closer to dark and I have trouble getting enough contrast to pick out the antler size without extra magnification especcialy against the woodline. I usually take people with me hunting and they usually take at least one of my other rifles. I have compared several scopes and know what works for me in certain situations comparing my other rifles, and a 6x isn't gonna cut it.

Why should you ridicule someone just wanting something? probably 90% of the things people have on here they don't need , but simply want. What I want is a large objective variable with long eye releif. These all tend to be expensive models so I thought I would ask for info before taking the plunge, since I thought the swarovski would work but Mule Deer posted that it only had 3.3" eye relief instead of the 3.75" advertised.

There are few things more unsettling than a boob looking through a scope,trying to ascertain a victim. Stupid is,as stupid does and I'm suprised you feel compelled to quantify that obvious.

Please feel free to enlighten me,as you dream aloud. How are you making these range determinations? How are you planning to compensate for same?

What would work for you,is a first clue,but alas you are not there.

Sorry for not putting the 12-42X NightForce in there. It has 1 5/8" at 12X and the same on 42X. That was a big surprise.
