Anyone have experience using the 350 Woodleigh FMJ? A search was not fruitful.

Got this info using H4350 in my CZ 550 from Geoff MacDonald at Woodleigh. It worked on my rifle. I recommend you contact him to double check unless someone else on the board can confirm.

Your loads are very much in line with ours:-
375 H&H 350gr RN or PP SN
Federal 215 primer
68-72 grains H4350 for 2300-2380 fps.
For FMJ start at 68 grains and work up if required.
Regards,
Geoff McDonald.

Subject: Woodleigh 350g 375 H&H load data

Hi, I've bought 100 of your 350g PPs and 50 of your 350g solids for my CZ 550 in 375 H&H. My rifle is due in this week. The only load data I have is for Barnes 350g bullets. Do you have any suggested loads for the 350g bullets? I was thinking of using H4350. For 350g jacketed bullets Modern Reloading 2nd Edition by Richard Lee gives:

H4350 68g 2261 fps
H4350 72g 2432 fps

Thanks much,
Chuck

Regards,

Chuck

I use RL-15..I suggest that you start with 65 grs. of RL-15 and work up...My rifle shot tiny groups at 66.5 grs. of RL-15 and I got 2407 FPS, WW brass, Fed 215 primers...

I got considerably more velocity with another couple of loads, but since my gun shoots exceptionally well there, I settled on this particular load as I don't feel another 100 or so FPS will make any difference in the field or on game that I would shoot with that big heavy bullet which will probably only be buffalo, albiet I did shoot a big bull elk with it and it really put him down as one would suspect.....

I also shot 65.5 grs. of IMR-4350 for 2405 FPS
75.0 grs. of H414 for 1415 FPS

Rifle was a 26 inch barrel English Mauser..all velocities were 10 shot averages and taking out the high and low shots.

Headed to the range in the morning with a load of 66 grains of RL15, 350 grain Woodleigh PPSP and F215M primers in new Hornady brass. Load is for my Dakota. Will give a report tomorrow.

I love RL15 but the lot-to-lot velocity variation is irritating. With 66 grains I was getting right at 2305 fps with the 350 grain Woodleighs and Federal 215M primers. I am guessing that with this particular lot, I will need to go to 67.5 or 68 to get 2400 fps. Accuracy was good, but I found the velocity a little frustrating.

[With my .500 NE, previous lot was 96 grains of RL15, to get the same velocity with this lot, I had to go to 99 grains. I guess the secret is to just buy a particular lot 20 pounds at a time.]

Thanks for the input gents. I do not have any RL 15 on hand at the moment but do have IMR 4350 and H4350. I would appreciate any additional load development reports and I will forward what my rifle likes the best. I did send a request for data to Don at loaddata.com and he said he would get back to me with what he could find. D'Arcy Echols told me that the last 4 375 H&H that he built and did load development for with the 350 Woodleighs liked IMR 4350 the best at 2350.

BTW I forgot to add that as much as I dearly love the 350 gr. PP and RN bullets, I am not real fond of the 350 gr. solids..I prefer a bit more velocity with solids and opt for the 300 gr. Woodleighs in combo with the 350 gr. PP or RN, or better yet a Northfork cup point...IF your rifle will shoot them to the same POI..mine did on both counts and thats handy..Actually I am perfectly content using one bullet, the Northfork cup point, but I do love Woodleigh bullets.
