I have a Marlin 336 that I want to shoot for groups to consider hunting with this fall, I have a few loads, but all seem to group about the same with iron sights, my error being the common factor.
I put a scope on it the other day and want to know if there is a "redneck" way to boresight it.
I have only boresighted bolt action rifles, pull the bolt, make rifle stationary, line up cross hairs with view down bore. It works fairly well, have had great luck so far.

How do I do it with my lever action, just hope at 25 yds doesn't sound very safe? I don't know how to look down the barrel the way I do with bolt actions on a lever gun, are there some tricks someone knows?
I will pull the scope once I find the best load, then I will be asking about good sights, it currently wears the factory sights.
Thanks for any ideas or past experiences.

JonS,

If you have a narrow mirrow, you can do it. At first, it is a real pain to figure out what you are seeing.

Take the screw out of the lever and pull the bolt out. Be careful not to lose the ejector. Look down the bore as you would a bolt rifle!

Thanks, got it done, no mirror, but bolt slid out. All should be set for a shooting session Wednesday, taking some anti-gun teachers out (to change their viewpoint, hopefully). They will have fun and I hope to have a few more on our side soon.
Thanks again

Once I get hired as a teacher (hopefully soon), I'll be a pro-gun teacher.

Sounds like you successfully got the rifle bore sighted. Regardless of action type, I always have fired one shot at 25 yards, put the crosshairs back on the center of the aiming point and then adjust the crosshairs to intersect the bullet hole on the target. Works every time with only one shot fired. It is always close enough to then move to 100 yards for a more refined zero.
