got a deal on an ultimate slam so i called leupold and ask about mounting it on a centerfire rifle. they said no problem. took it to the range today, i really like the reticle. i was just shooting at 100 yards so i dont know what yardage the dots will be at. i like the adjustment knobs, they are like the vx-111

Well the reticle is based on a .50 cal bullet that weighs 250 grains going 2100 fps out of the muzzle. You might have to play with the dots a bit me thinks grin

The SABR reticle is actually a pretty kick-ass reticle for big game rifles. Heres an example of how it works with centerfire rifles:

Assuming this load: .300 WSM running a 165 TSX @ 3100

The inside circle is 3.5 @ 100 yards. So, if you run your zero about 1.6 high at 100 itll impact inside that circle all the way to 250 yards (where it is dead on the bottom of the circle).

The first dot is +4 @ 100 (or +5.75 if you use the above zero) so its dead nuts at 400 yds.

The second dot is +6.8 @ 100 yards (or +8.5 using the above zero) so its dead on at 500 yds.

And the bottom of the post is +10 @ 100 yards (or +11.75 using the above zero) so its dead nuts at 600 yards.

Summary: Youve got a perfect circle that the bullet will go into all the way to 250 precise aiming dots at 400 and 500 and the bottom post is dead on at 600. Its just about the perfect scope for big game if you ask me.

I hope you don't mind me adding this-

I have a black powder rifle and happened to get a good deal on a Rifleman 3-9x50. Its like new in box and worth a little more than the Ultimate slam. I was curious if you might be interested in a trade?

I'm new hear but have the scope in the classifieds on modern muzzle loader dot com.

you can also check my ebay feedback if you'd like..

Thanks-
Brian

I appreciate the offer, but I'm quite fond of the Ultimate Slam. The adjustment dials are the same ones used on the vx-111. I like the reticle also, but I have'nt had a chance to see how the dots work out.
