Hi,
I'm for information about what sights were used on these .22's.
Like what book, reproduction or used that could be purchased with pictures of the sights,for future referance.
I'm aware of the #25 stevens with the tombstone inserts being used on the front of some 19-33's.
Also the Savage #10 on the rear of the 19-33's.
#15 NRA on the rear of the Model 19 NRA.
I also have a sporter 23A with a #40 Lyman on the rear.
I can find no mention of the brass inserted front sight found on many sporters.

Is there anyone on this forum with this information.

I've read that the No. 5 NRA sight shown in Stroebels book on page 277 is the one. I also read that you need to insure that you get the "two holed" rear peep sight as opposed to the single hole sight as otherwise they are very similar.

Here is what is stated in Bill Wests Savage and Stevens Arms and History- Model 23- AA White metal bead front and flat top elevator adjustable rear sight. Receiver tapped for No.15 Savage aperture rear sight. Model 23B- Receiver drilled and tapped for mounting weaver telescopic sight. Flat top adjustable sporting rear sight with white metal bead front sight. Model 19- NO. 15 Savage extention aperture type rear sight containing click adjustments for elevation and windage, with positive click graduated one-half minute of angle , equivalent to change point of impact one-half inch at 100 yds, other ranges in proportion: hooded front sight with 5 inserts. 19M- fitted with telescopic sight blocks. I'd go with what TomA says. My information was from notes from the rimfirecentral forum and cannot be validated without looking at Stroebels, which I do not have in front of me.

Here is a copy of the sights pages from catalog #61 which I think is the first to list the 1919 and from catalog #63 which has the 23A. The 1919NRA sight originally had only one large mounting screw and early guns are only tapped for one screw. The sight is somewhat flexable with only one screw but the added screw does not seem to add much strength - in fact wiith one screw there maybe enough flex sometimes to allow the sight to spring back from being bumped with out damage. Not matter how strong you make a sight if they are bumped hard enough they will bend. Both sights seem identicle except for the added mounting hole. My 1919NRA has only one mounting hole but had a latter sight with 2 holes on it - it worked fine but I have finally found an early one hole sight for it. Either sight will work for any gun you will just may have an extra hole in the sight that shows or an extra hole in the gun that gets covered. Gene
