I have five backcountry tents for sale. If that sounds like a lot, understand that Ive been backpack hunting for over 30 years and have gradually accumulated these specialized tents over time.

These tents run the gambit from lightweight one-man tents to a packable-and-yet-cavernous expedition tent. Heres a quick rundown.

1. Sierra West One-Hoop Bivy.1-man tent, 2 pounds 1 ounce.
2. Sierra West Two-Hoop Bivy.1-man tent, 2 pounds 4 ounce.
3. North Face Mayfly Tent.1 man tent, 3 pounds 2 ounce.
4. North Face Westwind Tent.2 man tent, 5 pounds 15 ounces
5. North Face Morning Glory Tent.4 man expedition tent, 12 pounds 13 ounces

1. Sierra West One-Hoop Bivy Sack THIS TENT IS SOLD PENDING RECEIPT OF FUNDS

When you want to head into the backcountry with a pack that is as light as possible, one way to do that is with a lightweight bivy sack. The very best bivy-sack designs include one or more hoops to keep the shelter up off of your sleeping bag and face. This lightweight Sierra West Bivy had one hoop located near the front of the bag.

[Linked Image]

This particular bivy is amazing light and compact, weighing just 2 pounds 1 ounce in its small stuff sack. Note the small size of that fully-loaded stuff sack sitting next to a Kifaru SpikeCamp Pack. That top-end daypack is approximately 21 inches tall. In the stuff sack is the bivy sack, the taken-down hoop and all necessary stakes.

[Linked Image]

The footprint of this ultra-light Sierra West bivy measures 104 inches in length by 31 inches wide. The inside height at the front hoop is 16 inches. The fiberglass pole package for the front hoop is made of a 4 takedown sections.

[Linked Image]

When zipped up, the front of this bivy is covered by a mesh screen for ventilation.

[Linked Image]

An attached storm cover can also be lowered for all-weather protection.

[Linked Image]

This quality Sierra West One-Hoop Bivy Sack originally sold about $119 new. This one is in excellent condition and Id part with it for just $40 (plus $12 shipping). Money order or cashiers check will be accepted for payment. Contact billinsidearchery.com to confirm purchase.

2. Sierra West Two-Hoop Bivy Sack THIS TENT IS SOLD PENDING RECEIPT OF FUNDS

And even better approach with a lightweight bivy is a two-hoop design. Two hoops (front and back) lift the shelter completely up off your sleeping bag, creating less of a chance of internal dampness in bad weather.

This Sierra West Two-Hoop Bivy is practically brand new.

[Linked Image]

Complete and ready to go, it weighs just 2 pounds 4 ounces. Everything (bivy shelter, poles and stakes) packs into a compact stuff sack. Heres that tidy stuff sack next to a Kifaru SpikeCamp Pack.

The fiberglass pole package is lightweight and easy to assembly. Five black-banded pole sections slip easily together to create the front hoop. The rear hoop has four sections.

The footprint of this two-hoop Sierra West Bivy is a generous 90 inches in length by 34 inches wide. Interior height at the back hoop is 17 inches. Interior height at the front hoop is 22 inches.

A mesh panel covers the front of the bivy, which is great for mild weather and improved ventilation.

When bad weather strikes or for more protection when youre away from your camp, an attached full-coverage storm flap is secured in place.

This deluxe Sierra West Two-Hoop Bivy Sack originally sold for $159 brand new. Ill sell this barely-used shelter in almost like-new condition for just $60 (plus $12 shipping). Money order or cashiers check will be accepted for payment. Contact billinsidearchery.com to confirm purchase.

3. North Face Mayfly

The ultimate lightweight one-man shelter is the North Face Mayfly. This is a two-part tent main tent and additional storm fly. Those two parts yield much greater condensation control and the Mayflys superb design also delivers more interior room without appreciably increasing pack weight or bulk. The whole Mayfly package, including stuff sacks, weighs just 3 pounds 2 ounces.

The main body of the North Face Mayfly is comprised of a full tent with a lightweight mesh top. The mesh top dramatically reduces weight

To that semi-mesh tent is added a complete-coverage storm fly. Ive repeatedly used this tent with the storm fly in multiple days of driving rain and even light snow, and remained dry and comfortable.

The tent and storm fly fit into one handy nylon stuff sack. I have the poles in a second stuff sack. Heres how those two stuff sacks look next to a Kifaru SpikeCamp Pack.

The one-man North Face Mayfly is a two-hoop tent with a surprising amount of interior space. The aluminum pole package is shock-corded, strong and takes down to a compact size.

The footprint of the Mayfly is 99 inches in length, 40 inches wide at the shoulders and 30 inches wide at the foot. Interior height is 16 inches at the rear hoop and a whopping 30 inches high at the front hoop. Ive routinely stuffed my sleeping pad, sleeping bag, hunting pack, myself and bow or rifle in this unique one-man tent.

The North Face Mayfly originally sold for $199 brand new. Ill sell this used one in excellent condition for just $75 (plus $20 for shipping). Money order or cashiers check will be accepted for payment. Contact billinsidearchery.com to confirm purchase.

4. North Westwind

Sometimes a one-man shelter just isnt big enough. The North Face Westwind is a two-person tent. Two people will fill it up comfortably. Its also excellent for one person with lots of room for gear.

The North Face Westwind is a three-hoop backpacking tent of exceptional quality. This is not a flimsy tent. Its very well engineered, sturdy and designed for serious backcountry use.

I typically divide this tent up into two stuff sacks and an additional poles package. One person carries the main tent body and the second person packs the storm-fly and poles package. Next to a Kifaru SpikeCamp pack, the resulting stiff sacks look like this. The total of all three stuff sacks is just 5 pounds 15 ounces.

The aluminum hoop package in made up of three shock-corded poles a front, middle and back hoop. The shock-corded poles slip together effortlessly.

The North Face Westwind has a footprint that measures 90 inches in length. Its also 39 inches wide at the very front, 58 inches wide in the middle and a full 30 inches wide at the foot. The maximum inside height is 45 inches. There are two interior mesh organizer pockets.

A back mesh widow provides ventilation or can be completely covered in the event of bad weather.

The North Face Westwind originally sold for $299 brand new. Ill sell this used Westwind in excellent condition for just $110 (plus $20 shipping). Money order or cashiers check will be accepted for payment. Contact billinsidearchery.com to confirm purchase.

5. North Face Morning Glory THIS TENT IS SOLD PENDING RECEIPT OF FUNDS

The A-frame configuration - in tents, tipis and even mountain cabins - has long proven superior in bad weather. The A-frame design sheds both high winds and heavy snow loads. True expedition tents which have been expressly designed for mountain heights and windswept tundra expanses frequently feature the unique and amazingly effective A-frame shape.

So it is with the North Face Morning Glory. This is an expedition-quality tent designed for the likes of Mount Everest and/or the wilds of Alaska. It was made for rough conditions in faraway places, and engineered to keep its occupants safe and dry in all weather conditions.

I originally purchased this particular North Face Morning Glory tent for drop-camp hunts in Alaska, where it repeatedly proved perfect for that job. Ive used it from Kodiak Island to the Brook Ranges with complete satisfaction. Four of us once utilized this Morning Glory without a hitch for 16 days of caribou and moose hunting, through all sorts of wind, rain and snow.

Any good expedition tent, besides being safe and secure, must also be reasonable lightweight and packable. Whether youre backpacking way back in on foot, loading up the horses or mules, or stuffing your gear into a bush plane, a tent that is packable is a must. The North Face Morning Glory breaks down into two very packable stuff sacks. Below are those stuff sacks sitting next to a Kifaru SpikeCamp Pack. The Morning Glory can also be broken down into more pieces for backpacking with friends. This tent broken down into separate loads of the main tent, the storm fly and the poles/stakes package makes for easy packing for three friends (and a great, roomy shelter when you arrive).

The total weight of both stuff sacks is just 12 pounds 13 ounces, and that includes the tent, a complete-coverage storm fly and all stakes and poles. The pole package is particularly impressive for the Morning Glory. No wimpy arrow-shaft poles here! The Morning Glorys beefy main poles are shock-corded A-frame poles that take down to a tidy 20-inch bundle. The two shock-corded end poles take down to a 14-inch bundle. These poles and this design can withstand serious wind and snow load.

A huge bonus with the North Face Morning Glory is that with so few poles, the Morning Glory sets up in a flash. I can have this tent set up and functional (in bad weather) in four minutes or less. Ease of setup is mark of a great expedition tent.

Another of the things that originally drew me to the North Face Morning Glory was its unique stand-up door. So many expedition tents feature absurdly low doors that you must crawl through. Such is not the case with the Morning Glory. You can stride out of this tent to face the morning and walk in for a good nights sleep. Thats a real luxury in a backcountry tent.

The interior of the North Face Morning Glory is simply cavernous for so packable an expedition tent. The footprint of the Morning Glory measures a whopping 159 inches from end to end. Its 87 inches wide in the middle and gently tapers to 40 inch wide at the far ends. Wonderfully impressive is that the center height of the Morning Glory is just over 70 inches. The North Face Morning Glory is an outstanding expedition tent suitable for up to four serious backcountry hunters and their gear.

Yet another unique feature of the North Face Morning Glory is the zippered stove hole in the waterproof floor of the tent. That zippered hole, located just inside the front door, is design to allow you to cook inside the tent during bad weather without fear of burning a hole in the tent floor. Ive used it frequently, and it works beautifully.

In addition, the tent features four interior mesh pockets to help keep you organized. Those strategically-positioned pockets work great to hold and protect such no-lose, no-step-on items as glasses, alarms clocks and the like.

At both ends of the North Face Morning Glory are convenient mesh windows for ventilation. Those windows can also be covered tight in bad weather.

The North Face Morning Glory sold brand new for $699, which was a lot for a tent in its day. I would expect that a tent of this stature would today retail for upwards of $1,000. This tent is in excellent shape. Id like to get just $275 (plus $25 shipping) for this carefully-used North Face Morning Glory expedition tent. Money order or cashiers check will be accepted for payment. Contact billinsidearchery.com to confirm purchase.

Thanks for looking.

Gun nuts have sharp eyes! That rifle is a mid-1960s Remington Model 600 in .350 Remington Magnum. The scope is indeed the now-discontinued "short" VX-III 1.75-6, which is absolutely perfect for this short-action fireplug of a rifle. The rifle/scope package is not for sale. The tents are!

Excellent ad.
Well thought out, and equally well presented!
Personally, I like all of the tents.

Couple of questions (yes, I read the ad) for you. Is the Westwind freestanding and do you have any pics of it with the fly?
I'm digging that last tent too, wish I had the funds or I'd be all over it.

That's ok, I'll ass shoot a dink.

AkMtnHntr - Good questions. The Westwind is essentially freestanding in that you can insert the poles and then move the empty tent around to where you want it or even hold it up in the air to dump out any remaining leaves, grass or whatnot. Staking it front and back then pulls it tight and maintains its shape.

I don't have any photos of it with the fly in place, but could take some if you're interested in that. Let me know if that would help you decide.

A number of you have asked about the removable storm flies on the Mayfly and Westwind tents, and have requested that I post photos of those tents with their flies in place.

Heres the North Face Mayfly with its tight-fitting storm fly attached: THIS TENT IS NOW SOLD PENDING RECEIPT OF FUNDS

[Linked Image]

That fly attaches securely to the base of the tent at the bottom on each hoop end and is additionally staked at the back, the front and on the sides.

[Linked Image]

Complete front-door access is provides even with the fly in place.

[Linked Image]

The storm fly for the North Face Westwind completely covers the tent and also includes a bonus front vestibule area. THIS TENT IS NOW SOLD PENDING RECEIPT OF FUNDS

[Linked Image]

That extended front vestibule is ideal for storing bulky gear like packs, wet boots, wet clothing etc. during any serious hunt.

[Linked Image]

It also doubles as an ideal cooking area during nasty weather.

[Linked Image]

Both the North Face Mayfly and the North Face Westwind are exceptional backcountry tents. Theyre designed and made with tough conditions in mind.

Let me know if either the one-man Mayfly or the two-man Westwind fit into your hunting or camping plans
