Planted a second round of corn in the garden several weeks ago (trying to have corn all season long) and the new sprouts were just getting brutalized by our local bunny population, sooooooo out came the .22 LR with the CB rounds. Little Big Horn had nothing on this shoot out.
Anyway, I cleaned and seperated out the forelegs, hindlegs and backstrap immediately after they hit the ground. Got them soaking in saltwater and gonna fry them tomorrow. Now, for the question: I have always hunted winter bunnies, not mid summer rabbits, because since I was a kid dangers 'lurked' with the latter. Threats of disease loomed. Anyway, I check them out really good, No bots under the skin, No white lesions on the liver, Or any abnormal growths, just seemed like healthy desert cottontails.
So is this a go or no go for dinner tomorrow night???
Thanks,
LNF150

You Bet! So long as you gave them the post-mortem, they'll be fine.
What time is supper? laugh

Thanks, Ingwe. What you said is kind of my mindset too. It would be easy to chunk them over the fence, but if there is nothing externally or internally problematic with them that I can visually see...then in theory they should be fine. And I think they are, plus they are corn sprout feed so they should be good.
Dinner will be served @ approx. 6:30 PM MDT tomorrow evening, we will have a place set for you;~) I have made the drive from my place to western Montana...That is a Looooooonnnnnnnnggggggggg Haul!!! Anyone that does that drive, deserves a 3" thick ribeye steak...not some rabbit hind quarter.
Take Care, Man

Shot a bunch of them late last summer in an abandoned PD town, 36, if I remember correctly. Did the post-mortem on all of them as we killed them, and sure enough, 5 of them had obvious tularemia, and sure enough, Mr.Experience here cuts his hand right in the middle of one of the sick ones.$85 later with a Dr. visit and a buttload of antibiotics,I managed to not contract it...thank God.
The other 31 were sure yummy though! grin
