You didn't see the joke in that statement about rests and wind... point was actually other than hold, the wind still blows, mirage still acts goofy etc....
My hold with a sling was under .5 moa as measured by a laser trainer at MTU Ft Benning for prone, and actually much closer to .25 moa. Later on a home version of same, I was getting much better at offhand and if I purchased that trainer it would have probalby finished off my problems... but we only use Mac computers and wasn't compatable and then I stopped shooting...

Rost, I saw the joke, just attempting to relax Mr FT Shooter up a bit. Just seems too darn serious at all times
This should be a helpful fun exchange of ideas.

What is F class?
I agree it is an ok means to introduce new people to the sport, and keep elder shooters enjoying trigger time.
However, as former ISU smallbore 3 position shooter, and air rifle (offhand) shooter, F class to me is "shooting lite." It is ok to get the taste in F class, but you can't compare it to shooting from a slinged position.
I have mixed emotions about it. If you are truly just starting out, or on the end of a career, I'm ok with it. I'm curious how many F class shooters actually transition into slinged-based shooting.
In anticipation to those who will ask if I've ever shot high power, the answer is "yes", but not a great deal. I had a woodchuck shooting buddy of mine go to a shoot, and he shot F class. He did ok, and was pumped about how great he shot. Ok, great. Now shoot like your supposed to. Then you can start talking.
In the years pass, we dumb-down our education, and lower standards so not as to discourage those who "try." Well, competition is competition is competition in any sport. Rifle included. An "x" is, and should only be an "x", and should be the goal of each shooter in his/her own level of commitment to achieve.
I guess I'd rather see a sling shooter, with a lower classification, and a true competitive spirit (to improve his/her scores) than see a bipod shooter with a pumped up chest with how "great" he/she scored.
F Class. Ok by me to get a taste. After that, learn the real skills of shooting.
I love offhand shooting. After you learn to use a sling, learn to shoot offhand. All position matches are determined by offhand performance. We can all save time and money by shooting offhand-and really develop our skills. The best part about offhand shooting is that the best equipment isn't necessary (lower cost to the shooter). You test the shooter as much, if not more than the equipment.
F class is better than nothing, but let's call a spade a spade (or a bipod a bipod), it's watered down shooting skills designed as a compromise. Never cease to strive to do your best under the "standard conditions" of competition. That's how you get better in any facet of life, business or sport.
Other than that, I really don't have an opinion on the subject.
Damn Snob.

Let me put it into proper perspective for ya........................ Shot a match just yesterday (600 yard F-Class) with a distinguished HP competitor. You may know him, Peter Church (place 9th at Lodi a couple of weeks ago). Pete shot F-TR at yesterday's match, we scored for each other. As a sling shooter Pete shoots a 600 with a high "X" count. Pete shot a 581-16X in F-TR. He's been shooting competitivly for over 60 years (HP, Smallbore........) As Pete walked away from the line after he fired his last string he said to me "that was a humbling experience". Tell me again how a bipod "waters down" the sport"??????

The thing about a particular competition is that all the players in said competition are equal within their particular class, be it a master across the course or a master in FTR, F, Palma, whatever. arguing whose class is "better", easier to shoot, read wind, etc. is a moot point , because in the end it comes down to the particular shooter in that particular competition , on that day. Even a short range BR shooter using the most high tech equipment can blow a group with one shot, and put themselves out of the competition, same a s a well know 1,000 yard shooter a few years back who put one right off the target, after having a year's average of right around 8" for 100 shots! The point I'm trying to make here. fellas, was the original poster asked "what is Fclass", not "what is the best, most accurate, or hardest competition" George Farquharson, originally had the idea for Fclass so the old guys with tired eyes could still compete ( as was already stated), and it went the same way as silhouette - an equipment race. i think the question was answered, no? I jsut hope we didn't scare away a potential Fclass shooter We now return to our regular programming...... Cat
