Now that Norma has standardized the 6.5x.284, are any manufacturers producing factory hunting rifles for it?

I've used this round on game and have seen it used a few more times. It is awesome in every way....great ballistics, flat trajectory, high SD bullets in 6.5mm and it kills like there is no tomorrow! All this with minimal recoil.

If I could find a nice factory rifle chambered for it, I'd probably have to snap one up.

I think....that Cooper is chambering the round. But other than that, I do not know of anyone who is.

Honestly, I don't see one of the big guns (companies) picking up the round as it'll never gain much for popularity other than with the 1K crowd, and a few 6.5 loonies.

I've been around the 6.5/06 a lot, and it's a good round as well. Basically it's a .270 and tht's a very good crowd to be running in.

I don't look for it to set any sales records, and that's not to say that we can't micro mgt a reason for it's existence.

Just my 3 cents.

Given that Nosler and Cooper are the kinds of companies that have or might produce rifles in 6.5x.284, I'm fairly sure than any regular person, like most of us here, who wants one could have a good current rifle rebarreled by someone like Pac-Nor for a whole lot less money than buying one of the "upper-class" ones.

Remington 700's work real well, from what I've seen of those in the hands of friends who have built 6.5x.284's.

FWIW...

Those Savage Targets are very accurate, according to reports.

Something like 1/3 moa WAAAAYY out past Fort Mudge if the wind is still.

I read a published report with repeatable sub inch groups at FIVE HUNDRED YARDS. The rifle was a 308 shooting handloads with the 155 AMAX (IIRC).

That would be a nice package, and I would definitely buy one or three.

a tikka 26" varmint barreled in that caliber would be nice. keep in mind that at normal hunting ranges a 270 win is still just as good, past 500 though its a different story only rifle loonies know that

Rumor is Cooper will make a short action "repeater" due out this fall. 6.5x284 included.

Ed Brown makes a nice one.

Dober, thanks for recognizing the 'loonietic' 6.5 fringe. High praise indeed for us who toil in the wildcat desert. crazy smile

If you're into Encores, you can get a T/C custom shop barrel in 6.5x284. I've thought about one myself but have too many other irons in the fire.

Was informed recently that for a small fee Savage will chamber any of their factory guns in 6.5x284. Was told about it here and a friend called and confirmed through Savage.

I wonder if they'd do it on a short magnum model with a 24" barrel?

Not sure but that friend of mine called and was put through to their shop and was given an answer on the spot. I don't see why they wouldn't since they already have the reamers.

NULA makes a 6.5-284 that shoots scary accurate and carries like a dream. I know because I have one.
