I used to load a lot of 150 gr. Hornady Interlocks with 57.5 gr. IMR4350 and CCI 200. My brother and nephew killed a bunch with that load. I switched a couple years ago to 49 gr. IMR 4895 and CCI 200.
Why do I have to press 1, for English?

My go to 30 06 load for deer and elk is...
56.5 gn IMR 4350 180 gn Nosler E-Tip Winchester primer Hornady brass C.O.A.L 3.300
My Winchester model 70 shoots this load very accurately and it kills em dead.

I also bought some TU-7000, I wonder what data you finally settled on?

Just setting up my COAL today to start at 3.350 going to start with IMR 4350… what range are you shooting at? New to the People’s Republic and still looking for a good range for load development. IIRC you are pretty close to me.

I don't have a specific range to use. Sometimes I use a spot of land my friend has, or I shoot at a range in Yuba City. I just picked up some of these bullets, I haven't loaded any yet.
Take care.

haverluk, is the Sacramento Valley Shooting Club still open off of Sloughhouse road? I have not been there in over 12 years but it was a very nice place to shoot, I helped build and was match director for rimfire and high power silhouette matches, moved to SD.

I've been hunting with 180gr Hornady SST bullets over 58gr of H4350 the last few years very successfully. COAL 3.355. Would have gone longer for this particular rifle but am limited by the length of the box mag. It looks funny with the cannelure so far above the case mouth, but oh well.
I tried some 150 and 168gr Barnes TTSX bullets but haven't been able to get them to group. I will try again, perhaps with different powder.

Anybody ever try imr 7977? I know it’s pretty slow for 30-06 I bought a bunch of it for my 300 WM and it just didn’t like it so I moved on to imr 7828 and found a great load. So I was hoping maybe someone has found good results with the imr 7977 with some heavy bullets in 06

I also bought some TU-7000, I wonder what data you finally settled on? I used 56 grains under a 180-grain Hornady flat-based spitzer for about 2,689 fps. That combination is about as old-school as you can go while still using smokeless powder but I killed a smallish black bear with it with one shot at 353 yards. I'd buy more of that powder if I could find it. I used a max load and I'd really like to find data that pushes it harder than I did, but all of the data I could find was pretty conservative. Okie John

Okie John Years ago I got a deal on a case of RWS uniclassic 180 grain. After buying TU7000, I pulled one of the RWS bullets and weighted the charge. It was 54.5 grains of an unknown powder that to my eye looked like TU7000. I then worked up a load with tu7000 and stopped at 55 grains with a Federal fusion 180 grain so flat base with cannulure. The point of impact was the same as the uniclassic, accuracy is around an inch. I still have 2 cans left and I'll try to use them with a round nose Sierra or Hornady once they come back. But I'm in agreement, if it becomes available again I'll buy more.

I have 10+ 30-06 rifles and would start with any loads using IMR 4064 powder. It has always served me very well.

WW-760 and H414 are basically the same powder, but follow published reloading data from a reliable source. H414 is a very good powder and easy to dispense. Don't always depend on "book" FPS velocity's. Purchase a chronograph to get true FPS information.

Ramshot Hunter worked well for me in a 23.625" Model 70 Classic Sporter. I got multiple 0.75 MOA groups out to 320 yards with three loads: • 58.5 grains/180-grain Hornady flat-based spitzer at 2,800 fps • 61.0 grains/168-grain Barnes TSX at 2,930 fps • 61.6 grains/165-grain Barnes TTSX at 2,800 fps
All three loads used Remington brass and Winchester Large Rifle primers.

Okie John I'm shooting through a pile of Data 85 which loads to Ramshot Hunter data. I'm using the Sierra 180 HPBT Match & some Hornady 178 A-Max.

My 721 likes this load: 30-06 Remington 721, 180 GR Hornady Interlock, 55 grains IMR4451, 0.09 MOA
I prefer classic. Semper Fi I used to run with the hare. Now I'm envious of the tortoise and I do my own stunts but rarely intentionally

For many years our 30-06 load was a 200 grain Nosler Partition on top of a case full of surplus H4831. Same load used in our three 30-06 rifles my daughters and I used. Never "tailored" the round for any of the three rifles, yet they all shot well. I attribute that to the wonderful 200 grain Partition.
Some time in the late 80's I switched to the Barnes X bullets. My go to 30-06 load now is a 168 grain Barnes TTSX bullet over a case full of H4350.
One load all I need for Alaska.

Hornady Round Nosed bullets are considerably underrated by those mesmerized by pointed plastic. Ugly, Ugly, Ugly! Had 150 rounds of those ugly .250 gr. Hornady bastids come with the 2nd hand .338 WM I bought about20 years ago. 15 years or so later, I got tired of looking at the ugly things, so I picked a high-end load (one grain under max, IIRC) out of the book, a different primer (on hand) (and possibly brass, too) and threw together the whole batch of bunch of junk loads to just shoot up. Screw any work-up. Rugers are tough! Fuggers shoot MOA, drop like a rock at longer ranges, but since I shoot moose at 100 yards or less (mostly), no prob. Now I'm stuck with boxes of the buggers, since my ideal moose season goes like this... Take rifle out of storage, check screws, run patch down bbl, fire 1 round across the bench to confirm POA (I already know how it groups, carries, and shoulders). Shoot moose. Walk up. Employ insurance round from a few yards out (had the crap scared out of me a couple times.... ) Clean gun, put away for another year. Kinda boring, really. Leaves me free to enjoy the hunt. I'm probably gonna die before I run out of those ugly things.... I just don't let my hunting pards see them.... [quote=AussieGunWriter]Hornady Round Nosed bullets are considerably underrated by those mesmerized by pointed plastic. LOL , know what you mean , I remember in the old days when a red hanker chief safety pinned to a hat was your blaze orange . A lot of old timers swore by the 220gr core lokts, never gave them a spin till two year or so ago and came across a couple boxes at some LGS and thought what the hell . Still haven’t driven them into any game . Hope to this year , that old round nose is amazingly accurate in my BAR and 700 , snot 3” low compared to my 125 and 180 loads But dead center and well under an inch . Kenneth

Anyone try Hornady's LeveRevolution or CFE223 in the 30-06? QL seems to indicate good speed and low(er) pressures.
