I will be purchasing a 14x16x5 wall tent and have been trying to decide between montana canvas and davis tent. Davis seems to have a great reputation here so I thought I would ask your opinions. For those that have used or slept in both why did you go the way you did?

It will be for hunting occasionally Colorado, Idaho and Wyoming but mainly in AZ and I will be going with the internal frame in case it matters.

I have a Davis 14 x 16 and their largest stove. My tent has traditional poles and I love it. The customer service is great and their reputation has been built by YEARS of proven products. I don't know anything about Montana Canvas but I have ONLY heard great things regarding Davis tents, stoves, etc. You won't be disappointed.

Davis tents are top notch folks. I don't have one of their tents however if and when, no question for me, it'd be a Davis. Every year Davis tent donates a tent to the Denver Chapter of the RMEF, they have for over 15 years. I like to support those who support my interest. Montana Canvas makes good tents too, I've even sold them. But I've gotten to know the Davis folks and that's where I'd go for a quality tent and quality service. IMO for what it's worth. CH

I'll pass on the advice I received from an aged veteran elk hunter:

"Art Davis. Denver. He's in the phone book. That 's all I know. That's all you need to know."

Seriously now, I own 2 Davis tents, and can say nothing but good things about their operation. They are pack in elk hunters themselves and know what works. They listened to my needs and recommended what would work well and I didn't get a sales pitch to run the option list up. Top notch outfit!

Their August special might interest you, if you're looking for a wood stove setup too.

Both have great reputations and I wouldn't hesitate to buy from either one. If you want to learn more about Montana Canvas, you can read testimonials on Cabela's website, as that's who makes their Outfitter Series wall tents for them.

Davis is top notch. Both product and ownership.

I completely agree.

I was leaning toward the Montana Canvas but I've decided to go with a Davis tent. Davis seems to be a better value and has better standard features. Also they responded to my emails very quickly when I had questions. I am still narrowing down the options but hopefully I can get the tent in my hands before a cow hunt in October or my bull hunt in November.

Do you guys have any opinions on getting windows installed for ventilation. I am already planning on front and rear screen doors but am debating on windows too. Here in AZ it can get quite warm during some of the hunting seasons. Like I said AZ will be the primary use of this tent but will the windows be a liability in say Colorado if the weather turns nasty?

get the rear window! great duting the day when the sun is out and the tent is warm...and you just happen to lay down to think about the evening hunting plans and possibly doze off....NOT THAT I WOULD DO THAT OR ANYTHING....

We bought our first tent in 2000 from Bravo Tent Co. Ours was a 15' x 24' with doors @ each end and 2 windows per side. We have used it in Col. every year since & have had no problems with the windows. Usually hunt the 3rd season. Bravo tent offers a high wind pkg. which I would recommend. We bought a 12' x 12' from Bravo Tent a few years later to be used as a cook tent. Very happy with both tents & their service. Whoever you buy from, purchase their snow slide for your tent or get a cheap blue tarp to cover your tent. Helps keep everything dry & snow slides off and not accumulate on roof.

I only know about Davis. They are the best I know of. I currently have an Eena also and it too is very good. I do prefer the Davis frames particularly the traditional.

If you actually haul your camp in they are geared to helping you have the most practical outfit not the most expensive.

All i know about Montana tents is lots of folks sell them including kni-co where I buy my stoves. I have heard no complaints about them.

Yep, get at least one window. One thing I noticed while looking at Davis' August Special is, I wouldn't want a sewn in floor in a wall tent.

SD4K, I believe the window zippers on the Davis tents are pretty weather tight. I'd put as many windows in as you think you need for air flow.

Windows are real handy when your stove stops drawing and fills the tent with smoke.

Get the windows. Our Davis has one on each side and the back and hasn't been an issue in snow or rain.

Windows in Az should be very useful. They have come in handy for me here in Colorado for the early season hunts as well. Good choice with Davis. Great family to do business with and outstanding customer service.

Davis tent's are top notch. If I had it to do over, I'd add the rear window (or even a rear door). I use a brown poly tarp for a rain fly and snow slide and it can cause the tent to really heat up on sunny days. I don't think anyone could go wrong choosing a Davis tent.

A white tarp over the top won't heat the tent as much in warm weather, and it's not so dark in the tent during the day

I called montana one late summer a couple years ago. They had what I wanted in stock and really took care of me. The 3-4 other companies I called told me I was sol. I don't remember which other companies I called. Montana was very generous with extras as well. Nice to know davis is a family company, I do really like dealing with businesses that appreciate my patronage.
