I need some opinions on these bad boys. Which one do you like better for shooting and why? Is the Latigo really worth paying tripple for? What are the advantages and dis-advantages?

Whats the whelen sling?

I use both, made the Whelen myself, and find the Latigo is easier to adjust.

The Latigo has great construction,is easily adjusted very quickly,and easy to loop up.The single screw slides easily through the keepers with little break in.They last forever.

I have two,transfer them from rifle to rifle.Would not think about going on a hunt without it.

Ditto what Bob said about the Latigo slings.
For many years, they were the only sling I ever used. And, for an all leather sling, they are about as good as it gets.
However, I personally think the Vero Vellini slings work better for me today for simply carrying the rifle over my shoulder hunting.
My Step Dad had Whelen slings on all of his rifles, and he liked them. They do have appeal for a period look, with the brass keepers.

Don't know about a whelen sling, but I love my Browning Latigo slings.

don't know anything about the two slings in question, but I've quit using anything but stretchy, synthetic slings with rubberized, non-slip undersides.

My shuolder tanks me at the end of the day, I'm not constantly readjusting the sling to keep it from falling off my shoulder, I don't worry about getting them wet and my wallet thanks me, too. I think I've been paying about $15 and that includes the quick-detach swivels.

The Latigo sling is excellent, easy to adjust and will last a long time. Although you did not list it as one of your choices, check out the Brownells "Competitor Plus Sling". I've been using one on my rifles the last few years and it is also top notch.

Latigo. Worth the $, I have two. Get it with the swivels already attached.

I can't get used to synthetic slings, just don't look right to me on a hunting rifle. And I hate, because they have no shape to them and thus flop around like limp fishing line, how they seem to hook onto anything available when you're getting out of the truck.

Latigo is very fine and soft leather, and probably the best for rifle slings.

I'm a fan of the somewhat traditional "cobra" style slings. Levy's Leathers make some very good leather slings...

Man, im suprised that most have no idea what a whelen sling is. Its basicly a simplified 1903 military sling designed by col. Townsend Whelen. Uses the loop like a latigo.
