Hey guys ,

I bought a nice little 8hp nissan outboard yesterday -cheap- $500 -going to buy a gheenoe 13' or 15'4" tomorrow.

Question is would this little square-back canoe style [FIBERGLASS] boat be useable in and around western oregon or are the streams too fast and rocky ?

Trying to decide if i'll be bringing it OR selling it before i move.
Thanks for any help.-Mike

Ol_Mike: One sees numerous flat backed canoes with smallish outboards running Oregon's Rogue. Being light and narrow, they don't need a lot of horses to shoot right up through the tightest of spots in the rapids, and if one is careful with his prop he can run pretty skinny water.

One typically sees two people (operator and a passenger up front) or a lone fisherman and a big rock in the bow to level the boat. Without a rock the operator and motor in the back tend to get the bow way too high. I don't have one of those setups, but if I lived down there I would. A great way to run up or down stream and access a bunch of water in a hurry. Easy for one person to handle by himself too, and not real big fuel consumers. Stay dry, 1Minute

On the MO streams, I have seen motors with some sort of a leverage pole attached to the motor, to swing up the prop while moving up shallow rapids. Some guys replace the standard lower unit with a jet pac? Good luck.

Still haven't dipped her in to the water -too busy w/ work.

I guess i'll be bringing it to oregon !
These supposedly go in 3-4" of water.
Thanks -Mike

Took the little gheenoe out fishing -skunked.

Neeeds a little doel-fin hydrafoil -i can see exactly what 1minute is talking about.
Also going to put the fuel tank up front when i get a longer hose.
I think i'll make the front compartment a storage compartment and just put everything up there - it needs it.
