First time loading the 300 Win Mag. Ordered some 180gr Accubonds, and realized I should have ordered some RL22 as well from reading different posts.

I have H1000 and H4350 on hand in bulk and would like to use one of the two. Just don't want to introduce another powder to the bench if it is not needed. I have other powders, but they are all 1 lb cans that I have used for test loads, etc.

Running a Rem 700P with 26" tube, factory rig.

I am thinking 3,000fps is where I would like to be.

Taking this rig elk hunting and tried to run some factory stuff through it, just inconsistent results. Not a lot of time before I go, but have a couple solid weekends to get loaded up. Will Chrony loads while testing.

H1000 and 4350 will both work with your 180s.

If you are in a crunch for time, I would at least load 4 at 2 grns before max listed, and 4 at max listed loads. Check for pressure signs on the 1st charge before trying the second. If one particular load gives you the velocity and accuracy you are after, load a batch, shoot a group to verify consistency, zero the rig, and go kill and elk. There are much better ways to come up with your loads, but that method works when time is a concern.

Look on Hodgdon's site for data. I don't have mine with me and can't remember what weights I used for the two.

I usually grab for H4831, IMR7828, or R22 for the 300WM and 180s, but I have used the two you mentioned and they work well too.

There are quite a few good powders for pushing 180s in the 300WM.

Use RL-22. I have used it in numerous 300 Winnies and it is THE go to powder in this calibur. Try 74.0 thru 75.5 grains with your 180 Accubonds and you'll find your load. 163bc

I've loaded IMR 4350 in my .300 Win Mag as well. H4350 will be close, but not exactly the same......

Yes it is a compressed load, CCI 250 is what i'm using with a lee crimping die to stop bullet migration. i have a weatherby vangard with a long throat and 3.5" magazine OAL is 3.495" in my gun.

Well, after a long day of loading, testing, firing, the occasional clean, swap scope, check base, torque on action screws, the list goes on and on.......

Rifle doesn't shoot. First of all, thanks for the info again fellas. Second of all, shooter error is always a possibility with me, but I put this thing through it's pace today and believe the rifle and myself are of one now.

Scope came off my .260 Sako, heavy bbl,APA built rig and I didn't have to remove the rings. Swap from one rifle to the next. Installed this scope back to the .260 today to verify scope. Scope is GTG, no question in my mind what so ever. Tracked w/o issue from one rifle to the other.


I ran H1000, and even loaded some with what little I had left over of RL22 to verify some things. H1000 won't see the barrel of a 300WM around here again. RL22 does it, and better. Now on the accuracy side of things, well guess we will see down the road.

Here is a quick rundown of my Chrony results with the CED Millennium.

This rifle just doesn't shoot. I have explored all areas and have one last item to try. I am going to re-crown and test a batch of RL22 with the charge of 74.5 or 75.5gr.

This barrel copper fouls like no other. I am done cleaning it. All groups were shot at 200yrds. 100yrds just doesn't seem to give me the info I need or confidence for down range results. No groups to post, they all sucked! The RL22 wanted to come together, but just wouldn't. (or I thought).

Don't give up on the rifle so easily! I spent the day at the range yesterday with my .300 Win Mag and 180 grain bullets.

My rifle does not appear to like 180 gr Accubonds! I tried several loads and RL22 gave the best results, but 6" to 7" groups at 200 yards is not good enough for me.

Luckily I had purchased some 180 gr Partitions as well and loaded a batch up for testing. Thankfully I had them with me and tried them. I am shooting groups just under 2.5" at 300 yards with this load combo in my rifle. This is off a sand bagged rest at my gun club so it may even be better than that! It ended up being the same powder charge of RL22 as I had loaded the Accubonds over so I'll pull the Accubonds and swap them out with 180 Nosler Partitions and go kill Elk!

A factory Remington tube that will give me sub MOA results with Partitions is making me smile!

Try swapping bullets before giving up on the rifle!

Not giving up on it yet, but started with 165gr Hornady IB Factory ammo, had a box of 150gr Rem Core Lok Factory ammo, and moved into reloading.

Loaded up 15 more of the 75.5gr RL22 and 180 Accubonds. I think this combo is darn nice.

The crown on this rifle wasn't the worst by any means, but darn sure wasn't the best. I pulled out a brass tool I made some time back and grabbed some lapping compound. Heck with it, going to give it a try. Ran wheeler 220grit then followed by Iosso bore paste. Looks great, no burs etc.

Looks great now, taking my loads and going to run some groups.

BTW, the lapping tool I built worked on a stainless barrel I had been playing with on another gun. Really made an improvement. Takes a little time and ease of the wrist (using drill), but hey it worked.

i would say your rifle hates long bullets, or just hates the 180 accubond. recrowning and different bullets. 3.550" oal ? or is your overall length 3.920" ?

i use 78gr h4831 180 AB seated to 3.34 oal fed match brass and fed gm215 primers for 3106 fps

OAL is 3.550
OGIVE is 3.920

Went to the range yesterday. Took the 300 Win Mag (TC Encore)and loaded up some RL22.
These are the first I have loaded for it and I guess I just got lucky. For me RL22 is the powder for the win mag

75 grains RL22
180 grain Nosler Accubond seconds
WW brass
Fed. 215 primers
velocity average 3120
Range 200 yards

Done with the Accubonds in this rifle. Thinking about moving on and trying Bergers?

Accuturds out of this tube.

Ran some 175SMK in front of 73.5, 74.5, and 75.5 RL22.

Night and day. Sub .8" groups at 100 (probably sub .7".

No more Accubonds for me. Hopefully the Bergers run out at least like the SMK's.

168 TSX or 168 SGK's work well in my 300 win mag. RL22 and 215 or 215m rem brass .020 off lands.

I loaded 8 rounds each. Fired a 3 shot group of each at 100 and then a 5 shot at 200. Unfortunate, I was pressed for time to get back and feel I rushed testing this. This is what I came up with. I think it is pretty promising on all loads, but will run with the 77.5 today to see what it does on out.

My 300 shoots consistant MOS's using 4350. I shoot 200's however.

A friend runs 180s and get 3050fps and he also uses 4350. He uses NPs and I use Grand Slams.
