Should probably put this in varmint rifles but the light's better here.

Anybody ever use a drop in single shot follower? A few people make one, E. Arthur Brown and then a "Score High Bench Rest" follower.

Got a M700 VS .223 that shoots terrific but doesn't feed worth a dang. It hangs up rounds from the magazine which is a PITA to load in the first place as the bolt goes back further than the back end of the magazine and you have to position the rounds just so or they won't go in.

Don't really care about that as I single load anyway. But even single loading, it won't accept a round laid on the factory follower, it hangs on the chamber. You have to sort of half feed it in the chamber and then push the case head down into the magazine for it to go in straight.

I still like the rifle because it shoots in the high .2's and .3's real consistently. But before shelling out any bucks I wanted to check and see if this product works well or if it's just hype.

I have a handful of Score High followers that I use in target and groundhog rifles, including a M700 in 223.

They work fine.

For the $10 or so investment, I think you'll be happy with one!

I used the ScoreHigh follower in a couple of M700 varmint/bench rifles, works great.

The older rem 700 varmint I picked up a few years back had one in it. It worked well enough, but I removed it to use the mag.

I'm just wondering though, if your gun won't feed with a round laying on the mag or single loaded if it will work with the single round follower. I'm thinking perhaps when your barrel was chambered the mouth of the chamber wasn't radiused and you might still get hung up.

I'd wager on it being assembled incorrectly...............

Yes, I have an aluminum long action one for my Remington 700s.
It works great. I can't remember where I got it. The name of the company is on the back side of it. I'll have to look.

Well, that was an easy fix. The follower was hanging up inside the box. I took the sides of it down a hair with some 240 grit then polished it up good with 1000 grit. While I was at it I polished the feed rails a smidge with the 1000 grit and now it feeds from the mag just fine.

Feeding from the mag wasn't a big deal to me anyway. Now with the follower freed up it's easy to just lay a round in anywhere, thumb the case head down under the rails in the same motion and it feeds right in.
