Down at the local Cabela's today and in the gun room is a Searcy .450-400 3" fitted with a Talley Scope system and wearing a VX-3 1.5-5x20mm with Illuminated Reticle.
It has some tastefully done, sparse engraving on the coin finish action. $12,500 and it's yours.
Best I can figure it's a field grade with some upgrades? dunno.

Make him take out student loans That's what I did; I got a ton of scholarships and took out loans for the rest. My parents helped out from time to time with costs I couldn't handle, but %95 was paid for with either scholarships or loans in my name. I'll be paying them off for the next 30 years
Buy that Searcy and if your son goes to college, tell him he can shoot it if he makes the Dean's List.
What I like about a Searcy is how strong they are, and how well they All shoot...I also like the fact that if the airlines loses one, it can be replaced, not so a good English rifle. Also its easier to insure a $12,000 rifle than a $40,000 rifle. I like the feel of the Merkels, but they are pretty tinney inside IMO.
