If anyone ever made a fixed 5 I'm probably one of the nuts that would buy it. I have been walking around for years with my variables set on 4 1/2 - 5 anyway.
It is a big jump from 4x to 6x, and 6x is too much for me in the thickets.

The 280 Remington is overbore.
The 7 Rem Mag is over bore.

my hunting is just different. I shoot targets at 8-10X but shoot animals a 2-3X. I can get a reasonable group at 4X having shot them before but it seems easier at higher magnifications.
I wonder how rugged the Z3 is going to turn out to be regards its erector system? I may buy the Z3 just for the hxll of it and hold on to it until I get a rifle to put it on. Sadly the new Leupolds take too many trips back to the factory.

One brand many might not be familiar with is IOR from Romania. I have a couple and they have excellent glass and repeatable turrets. The one downside is that they are quite heavy.
May be worth a look.

Yeah, just tested a Z3 3-9x and rated it the best lightweight (12 oz.) 3-9x I have ever tried. Very fine optics and the adjustments were right on, with one exception that took a shot to bounce into place.
I am doing some optics evaluation stuff for TEXAS SPORTING JOURNAL, a very nice magazine, and the review just appeared there. Of course those statements are what kept E from interjecting with his anti Swarovski nonsense.There is no way that he would dare question J.B.'s opinion.

Some have started to kncck the AV Swarovski. It is basically the same as the Leupold was until this yyear and besides I have used my 4-12x50 AV for 8 years now with absoluetly no adjustment errors or issues. Don't knock tham unless you have tried one.

the only way Swaro and Leupold are the same is that both companies control the selling price and force their dealers to sell at MSRP or they lose the franchise. Should be a crime to do this.

I was asking myself the same question and after reading this thread and others I decided to try the Z5 3.5-18. I figured it would also be an excellent varmint scope if I decided to mix things up at a later date.
I now own a VX-III, a Monarch and will finally have the opportunity to try some middle end Euro glass.
