I wonder about a coat of just plain mineral oil?

Not interested in preserving the whole skull just the antlers this time around.

I learn something every once in awhile.... like the peroxide thingy... I like it! (I've always thoroughly rinsed any bleached stuff - as in boiling the moose skull in plain water afterward)

Threw a nice set of caribou antlers up on the roof just after I peeled the velvet off them. In two years time, they grew lichen and got chalky - best to peroxide or bleach them on taking off the velvet- peroxide should work best - to clean off the remnant blood, etc.

Used Kiwi shoe polish to restore brown color when I got ready to mount them- finally! Also brown-tinted epoxy to restore the soft tine-tips the Labate when I wasn't looking.... Didn't come out all that bad, considering...

The moose antler pic shown earlier also sat outside for several weeks and started to bleach out and was Kiwi-ed... tho it didn't need nor take much color.

I've never used it on antlers but Spar Urethane is a clear thick finish that is rated for exterior use and provides UV protection. It works great for any type of exterior wood and I don't see how it would negatively affect antlers. It protects bare wood better than paint. Available in satin or gloss.
