I have a Pre 1964 Winchester in SuperGrade (yes, its a SuperGrade) and I was wondering what you all thought it would be worth.

It is at least 90%, if not in better shape, with no changes or modifications to the stock, barrel, or receiver. Everything is intact including all of the iron sights. No aftermarket drilling or tinkering. Heck the bolt and blueing doesnt even have any scratches or wear spots.

Serial # is 137788 and it has a Leupold VX III on it, all brand new.

Tell me how to post pics and I will.

(TIA) Thanks in Advance

Just watch Gunbrokers and you can get an idea of what they sell for.

Ok, checked GunBroker.com

They had one and they wanted $5300.00.

I need info on my particular weapon. When was it made? What are the most desirable calibers? Mine was as nice but without the jewel bolt, is that worth more? You would think it would be.

Yes, the sights are proper. Floor plate is high gloss blue with the "Super Grade" beautifully engraved. No wear.

It's a 30 Govt. 06 Marked on the barrel. Or a 30.06

How do you post pics and you can see what I am talking about.

What color it the front sight? Is the face of the front sight smooth? and SUPER GRADE should be stamped with teardrops on the floor plate.

FWIW, According to Madis, the serial number dates to 1950...

I'm am appraiser, from my understanding it's worth about $1000. If you are willing, I'll send you a check and you can send the gun to my ffl. It's starting to drop value fast so hurry up with an offer. hehe....

The front sight has a white bead on the shooters side and is ramped to the bead in the front. It is smooth

Thanks for the date, that helps explain a lot

Thank you for the generous offer of a thousand dollars. Perhaps you forgot a zero.

I am figuring out how to get a web based url of the pictures to post.

As I search around on GB.com I have noticed a lot of differences in price. I guess its a complicated process.

All I know is it is one real pretty rifle.

Thanks Dad

The front sight is wrong, should be GOLD and serrated stem,a reason to start looking at everything.Do you have the book "Rifleman's Rifle" or can you get to one?
The front sight base MUST be integral to the barrel at that date and did you pull it out of the stock, look for the backwards "S" The stock should be a low-comb with a steel butt-plate also.

Your rifle would have been made in late February 1950. Serial # 135,000 was made on February 1, 1950 and serial # 138145 was made on March 2, 1950. (The Riflemans Rifle). Without seeing your rifle, it would be hard to give you a firm value. The 30-06 was the most common Model 70. Nearly 36% of all model 70's were made in 30-06. The same applied to the Super Grade style, 30-06 was the most common caliber made in the Super Grade. I don't believe the actual number of 30-06 Super Grades is known, but everything I have read states that the 30-06 was the most common Super Grade. According to Roger Rule there were only 15,881 Super Grades made in Pre-64 Model 70. The .300 Savage is the most rare only 362 were made. Today many Super Grades have been made up and passed off as original rifles. If your rifle is original, I would say your rifles value would start around $1,800 and run up to $3,000. Then again... the value of your rifle will depend on what someone is willing to pay for it.

If you want to use gunbroker as a guide, don't bother to look at the asking prices, do a search on what guns have sold for. Use the advanced feature and look at the ones that actually sold. That will give a much more realistic idea of what people are willing to pay.

You as well... I have seen just as many made up Super Grades as original Super Grades. The same goes for NIB Model 70's. This one I felt comfortable on. Found on page 60 in the Riflemans Rifle. Pre-War 30-06.

That one may qualify for "the extra zero"! wink

Anybody who seriously concerns themselves with the adequacy of a Big 7mm for anything we hunt here short of brown bear, is a dufus. They are mostly making shidt up. Crunch! Nite-nite!

Very interesting stuff...

You guys are the bomb...

Whitebird, MtnMan1,and Rifle.

I am going to investigate the front sight a little better. I have bad eyes it could be gold, or have been gold and painted.

Always a big difference. Some sellers have a huge reserve, and those are the ones that most likely didnt sell. Only pay attention to the final selling prices of rifles similar to what you are trying to sell.
If you seriously want to find out the rifles value place it on Gunbrokers with a high reserve. If the bidding does not reach the reserve the rifles value is the high bid. All it takes is one or two people fighting over it. But in general, most firearms have dropped in value over the last 2 years and I still dont see them coming out of there slump yet.

My 30-06 supergrade is a 99% gun. Came with paperwork but no box. Mine is a late 1950 production serial # 164xxx. Somewhere around 160,000 is when they switched to 30-06Spfld stamping. Many collectors like the 30 gov't 06 stamping. I paid $2695 for mine in 2005. IMO prices have remained steady since then. I've located and bought/sold Winchesters for the fine gunrooms in Cabelas and Scheels in the midwest so I'm pretty familiar with values. The big question is condition. Most of the value in there and I'd need pics to be sure. If you're a 98% or 99% gun the value goes up considerably. You're likely in the $2300-$3000 range depending on value and whatever market you'd choose to list it. Winchesters are regional. There are pockets in the country where they bring far more $$ than others.
