Anyone put aftermarket open sights on the rugger 77 before, and how did it turn out?

The woman picked this out as the rifle she wants, but she's most comfortable w/ iron sights. So be it. Would like to hear a few opinions from experience, particularly any "things to be aware of". Have flipped thru xssights and williams online catalogues so far.

I've never used NECG, but I've never heard anything but positives.

I have used the NECG peep site that attaches directly to the ruger scope mount. It takes a little patience to adjust, but is a good solid rear site.

For the front site you might look at one of the barrel band sites from NECG or even look into ordered a barrel band site that ruger makes for the #1. A friend of mine did that with a ruger frontier rifle, the peep and the barrel band work and look great.

Nothing wrong with Williams or XS either.

Good luck

Here is another vote for the NECG peep. If it were me, I would stick to a banded front as those compacts don't have too much meat on them to drill and tap for a front. And if the smith drills too deep its not like you can lop off 2" and try again...at least the that's what the ATF says..

I installed a NECG banded ramp front site on a 30-06 Hawkeye and it works very well with the NECG peep site. Got a lot of useful tips from Redneck and other folks here on the fire. As Eric noted the peep takes a little fiddlng to get adjusted but once it's set it stays true.
