I'm trying to find a stock similar to these for a CZ 550. CZ-USA does not offer these in America.

Even if I cannot find a stock with the Bavarian "hogback," I would still like to have a sporting type stock. I have looked at Richards Microfit Gunstocks but they don't float my boat. Two questions:

1- Are there any other stock options for the CZ550?

2- Will sporter stocks for the 98 Mauser accept the 550 action?

Thanks for any advice you can offer.

(1) No, Mauser stocks will not fit.

(2) For the magnum actions, Bell and Carlson makes an excellent stock which is being sold direct by CZ-USA.

I have a McMillan in their now defunct AHR pattern; their new pattern for the standard 550 action is their Sako Classic pattern, which is highly regarded here.

American Hunting Rifles, www.hunting-rifles.com, sells a proprietary synthetic stock which I believe is made by MPI.

Your best bet for getting hog back stock is to find someone who couldn't live with it and buy it from them. I like the hogbacks, or I'd sell you mine; before the American stocks came out quite a few guys were selling their hogback take-offs and going to synthetics.

Here's a pic of my McMillan CZ AHR stock on my CZ 550FS in 9.3x62 Mauser"

It is a very fast handling stock; thin, straight comb, narrow foreend, thin swept back grip: very nice. It was my first McMillan and it made be a believer grin

McMillan also makes a stock for the CZ 550 magnum action, I have owned a couple but never bolted them to rifles (only a rifle loony buys stocks for guns he doesn't own and then sells them to buy other guns) and they felt good.

Oregon45, thank you very, very much for your reply. I made the same post in four different gun forums and yours is the absolute best answer I have received. I sincerely appreciate it. My CZ 550 is also an FS model and while I do like the Mannlicher style stocks, I was hoping for something slightly more practical. Looks like you can just remove the action from the stock and take off the end cap, huh? Thanks again.

Yup, you just take it out of the stock and take the foreend cap off. There is also a barrel mounted recoil lug just behind the rear sight, it is in a dovetail and can be drifted out right to left with a brass punch. My McMillan stock was a straight drop in and required no bedding at all.

Why would you want to take off the end cap. My 550FS 9.3X62 shoots sub 1" end cap and all.

I'm still not sure if I will or won't. I was originally looking for the CZ 550 Lux but it's not available in the U.S.

I didn't take it off to increase accuracy; I took it off to restock the barreled action in the McMillan.

My 9.3x62 shot sub 1" in the Mannlicher stock as well, they're great guns.
