I'm getting reloading equipment from santa, never reloaded before, and I was looking at this bullet for deer and other larger animals. Also looking at the 60gr Hornady SP.

Will the 64gr Power Point stabilize in a 1-12? or will I just have to try and see?

Thanks guys

I used the 64gr. Winchester Power Points in a Ruger KM77RFP MKII .223 I had that had a 1 in 12" Twist. I loaded them to 2912 FPS with W-748. Accuracy was about an inch for 5 rounds at 100 yards from the bench.

I still load the same load for a buddy. He has used that same load for 2 years now on South Dakota Pronghorns with great success.

Both work well, I prefer the Hornady ...both will usually stabilize/shoot well in a 1 in 12...

Brett ... they should work just fine, in that they should stabilize well, shoot well, and work great terminally on game ...

I've found adequate deer hunting accuracy with them in 14 twist 222s. 223s, usually 12 twist, have been very easy to shoot well with them - even when 60 grain SP won't shoot easily.

My Ruger M77 MKII does this quite easily:

Dober I remember you liking those but I have a cabela's gift card and they don't have the 63 sierras so i'll have to wait on those.

i'm pretty excited to start reloading and try these out. I'll be running them through my Vanguard Varmint Special in .223

Does Sierra still make a 63 grain .224 bullet? Can't find it on there web site.

The 65 gr. Sierra GameKing stabilizes very well in my 1 in 12 twist Howa 1500. I would think the 64 gr. PP would stabilize in your 1 in 12 twist.

Just this past fall I worked up a load with the 65gr. Sierra Gameking Spitzer Boat Tails, but it was for my 1 in 9" Twist 16" Bushmaster. I didn't spend a lot of time working on this load and ended up with a 1 MOA load for my Bushmaster using H-4895.

I get excellent results with 25.3 grs of H335 and 65 SGK out of my 700VS with a 1/12 twist at 3064fps. Well under an inch 99% of the time. Max load in old manuals but I think they dropped it to 25 in the last one I looked in. Shot real well out of my 16" Bushmaster, also.

I have never tried the 64 grain Win. but the 60 grain Hornady and the 63 grain Sierra both give good results in my 12" twist CZ527 with the right loads.

Sierra states that the 63gr SMP is the limit for 1 in 12 twist and does work well. I use the 65gr GK's in my Savage and get .300 or less groups @ 100 yards with it useing 26gr of Varget. The 65"s come with the statement "for use with 7 - 10 twist barrels" in red right on the box

From the for what it's worth category, the 63 has shot incredibly well in every 14 twist I've ever used it in. Pretty much in the top 2 most accurate slugs I've ever used in the 22's.

I found what Mark did as well...shot a ton of 68gr. match in a 1 in 12 .223 Bbl...
Not sposed to work...but it did...in spades, and at some distances....
