A friend has a Dumoulin Mauser in 7x57 that he has offered to me after the season. I believe it is an older one, but I don't know. It has the 3 position safety on the bolt and a 2 position safety above the trigger guard for scope use. He bought some Hornady Light Magnum loads for it and I was wondering if it is a gun that can handle modern pressure loads or should it be only shot with lighter pressure loads?

What is your opinion of these rifles?

Don't worry about safety. Dumoulin builds very fine rifles.
You will see some for sale in the US from time to time, usually African calibers.

Any pictures of the marks on the gun ? Some signs allow to check the age.

Sorry no pics. The gun is some distance and the guy with it doesn't have a computer. I may see him this week so maybe be able to look it over some more.

I much prefer the H. (Henri)Dumoulin rifles over his son's as far as quality over all. I forgot his son's first name. I owned one in "300 WINCH" that shot very well, but the grip was just too long and made reaching the trigger difficult. It's down the road now, but what a nice rifle.

Ernest Dumoulin died in Feb. 2008 IIRC.

He produced damn fine rifles with FN and SAKO actions.

The company is still running but I don't know who's the new President.

I have looked at a .338 full-stock at the local Cabelas. I get really soft on "mannlicher" style rifles and this one is sweet. At first,I questioned the caliber, but it's a very comfortable carrying stalker,so to some it will make sense. The workmanship is very good and it's on a slick Mauser action. Here's a link..

I have a feeling as well for full stocked sporters. That rifle is interesting however the price is of "Gun Library" size.

The release latch on the floorplate seems large and why the gold trigger with a overtravel screw in it?

Nice rifle. Thanks for showing it. Make them a low offer and reduce their expectations.

Ok. The guy with the Dumoulin is asking $1750 for it. A couple things more about it. It has a plastic butt and an ebony forend if memory serves. Does this sound reasonable?
