Can anyone recommend what bases/rings work best for their 94AE XLR in .356 Winchester?
Rear of receiver is drilled/tapped left and right, the front is drilled/tapped normally, concentric with the bore.
Thanks a million!

WTM45, I have a half a dozen AE's in .307, .356, .375, and one I rebarreled in 7mm STE, four of which are scoped. I used Weaver bases on two, Burris on one, and got a coupe of sets of bases from the company that bought out Numric or Sarco. I think that Leupold made the bases for a while. The early .307's and 356's were tapped in the front with the two holes that were about 60 degrees apart of the axis of the bore the later ones are tapped top dead center of the bore in a line. All of the AE's were tapped side by side for the back base mount. On the subject of rings I use Burris Zee rings for all of mine. I saw a set of Weaver rings that have a Weaver base clamp bottom and have the ring set up that clamps/holds the scope like Redfield and Leupold rings. If you are interested in peep sights, the Williams is a good choice for this. I have the .375 and one of the .356's peep sighted. With that set up I can shoot the peep sighted ones into a three inch group at 100 yards, not great but it works for short range deer. Good luck with yours! Good shooting, Marcus.

Thanks! The search for Weaver or Burris bases begins! I know the Burris Zee rings are an excellent choice for rings.

Take a look at Aimtech Second Sight. It's a low profile see-through sight with Weaver rail on top. I don't care much for the see-through feature, but the rail using QD rings provides tremendous flexibility. You can use pre-sighted scopes, red dot sights, etc.

I use Leupolds on my 356. I have one of the earlier 307's with the radially drilled holes on the front base and had to get the bases thru Winchester.

Had Weaver on my mine but took them off to use open sites. They worked well.
