Just bought a Remington 700 SPS Stainless in 7mm-08 to be my new #1 whitetail gun. It's a really nice piece but i'm not exactly thrilled with the brushed finish. The same gun I own in the Mountain Rifle is a lot prettier piece.Anybody know of a way or some one who could polish it up to a little better finish ?

It can be re beadblasted with a much finer grit but needs to be polished first. Most any bluing outfit will know how to make it look better.

The older ones with the rougher finish and the deep roll marks, I've taken a file to the s/n and roll mark to get them level with the rest of the action, then wet sand, starting with 200 grit and working your way up to 1000. Then beadblast with finer beads gives it a nice satin finish.

I wish Remington would do a little better job on this rifles finish, I understand it would add a little to the price but I've seen some SPS rifles that had shameful finish's.........547.

I saw a stainless SPS a year ago that had candy cane grooves running up the entire barrel. I think they were hoping the beadblast would cover it but it didn't. So they boxed it up and sent it out the door. Amazing. You could run your fingernail in the groove. It was that deep.

I would give Eddie a call or pm and have him re-bead blast it. I had him cerakote my SPS in black but first he must clean up what is there, he does really good work. http://www.fosnaughcustoms.com/index.html

Had the bead blast thing done to a SS finish. Really nice, smooth satin finish to it now. It will get marked up after some use as the shinier SS underneath will show. You can always have it blasted again if that bothers you.

I'm running a rifle that started with the grainy SPS SS receiver and a sandpaper finish Pac-nor barrel. While I had it at a local shop for a chop/crown, I had it all blasted as dull as the guy could manage. It is a handsome piece now, as the blasting tamed the grainy surface of the reciever and it blends well with the barrel.
Now with even more aplomb

I bought some Ultra Gun Shield from Doug Burche and am going to try that on my SPS 257 Roy. Will post pics of before and after when I get around to doing it (might be Sunday)....
