I have one that shoots very well long range but long range for me is 350 to 400 yards. What has anyone seen with a 7mm Ultra mag and what bullet combo.

If the rig is accurate and the shooter good, then beyond 1K is possible with deer/antelope for sure.
I took an antelope this year just beyond 1K with a 7WSM and 162 A-Max, so the 7 Rum will run quite a bit harder than that.

The 7RUM is pretty close ballistically to a 300WM with slight edge going to the RUM based on the BC of heavy for caliber bullets. If the shooter is up to the task 1k would be within its killing range on even an elk and deer and lopes for sure.

It's not what you asked, but I've TRIED with the STW out to about 2400 yards. According to my map, it's about 1-3/8 inches from where I sat to what I was aiming at at 1 inch = 1 mile. I thought that was pretty good since I couldn't see the target in the scope, the field of view wasn't tall enough. I had to pick spots on the mountain roughly vertical above it and "by guess and by golly" my way in.

The first shot fell about 500 yards short. The second was about 50 yards short. The third was within 5 feet. After that my target up 'n' left. Chicken [bleep] bastage!!

And no, I ain't tellin' ya what I was shooting at.

The rifle was a factory SS Sendero, Leupold 1" 4.5-14X 40MM AO, load was a 120 grain Nosler ballistic tip, home moly coated, over 83 grains of IMR 7828, Remington brass, Fed 215 primer.

Anyways, for the 7mm RUM, add 40 - 150 fps at the muzzle.

Tom

But then you're not just a casual weekend shooter, are you Ernie? Heading off-topic, but I tried your varmit rifle scope trick on my XPs'. Incredible what they are capable of with higher magnification!

weaselsRus,
No, not quite a weekend shooter, but some here shoot at distance more than I do I am pretty sure.
Yes, the 7WSM was a center-grip XP grin
Glad to hear the riflescope on your SP worked well for you.
Sorry for the OT guys!

with a good rest, dialable scope, drop charts and range finder you may be surpised how far you can shoot.

We have the odd day where we set up gongs out to 860 and have had some that look at the target and laugh....said they need a side of a barn to hit it at that range....the ones that had a good rest and dialed the range mostly got to the 650...one even shot a 3" group at that with his 308 hunting rig and he was the barn man. He was stoked

7mm rum is capable for those long shots

Me personaly on an animal I have yet to shoot past 650 but I have allways got as close as practacle when shooting

I have a light rig in 7mmSAUM that I hope to get out more with and see if I can streach its legs smile

Hunting fishing its all good smile
