160 Partition in a .270 Win. But I hunt with a .264 Win, which is basically a .257 Weatherby, so I'm kind of conradicting myself.

I prefer the 270 but have used the 257 Wby and would have no issues in using it day in and day out for elk.

If one builds they can do a nice light 257 Wby, but other than building there isn't a lot of lighterweight options. If I had to do a 257 Wby I'd grab a 700 and wrap a Ti take off around it. Then it'd have the weight out front that I like and would still be fairly lightweight.

Bottom line, either round is fine with me as long as I can get it in a rifle I like to shoot and carry.

My Dads bread and butter cartridge since 1968.I've seen tons of moose shot with that combo. It doesn't drop them like a 7mm 30 cal ect.Never has..I'm not impressed with it on large game to say the least.

I find it interesting that you say you're not convinced that the 257 packs enough punch in yet you say 270 with a 130 TSX.

This is only my experience but to me a 270/130 combo will run in the 3100 give or take range. And the 257 Wby will run a 120 to 3200 with no problemo.

Bottom line, my experience has taught me that there's not much diff tween the two.

Thoughts as to why you'd say a 270/130 but that the 257 isn't packing enough punch?

Thx
