True confessions - my preferred elk rifles all begin with "3", and my favorite with "33".

I really like both; however, if I had to choose just one it would be the 270 Win because it will handle heavier projectiles if needed.

Own them both, love them both but if elk were on the menu, I would be carrying the bigger bullet...

having said that, my 300 wsm would be preferable.

what is the gun used for? the two are both proven elk killers. if it was gonna be a open country speed goat and dog zapper I would lean to the 257 if you were gonna just hunt elk I would think 270. having used both with equal results I would just grab one and go.

ps, my 257 killed elk died to the trauma from a 100gr tsx tearing through (yes through) at 350 odd yds. I have the utmost confidence in them because I shoot it a bunch.

that last line^^^^^is more important then the difference of the thickness of a piece of paper between two bullets.

Amazing what a difference 1/50th of an inch and 2% of an ounce in bullet weight can (theoretically) make.

I can't believe this made it into the elk forum.

Everyone knows that a .270 Win will just pencil in without expanding and a .257 Roy will disintegrate before it gets through the armored skin...

You can only kill elk with 7mm and larger bullets or they don't bleed. grin
