Never mind my comments, watched that, evidently he thinks it was hunting, and not a meat deal... shame some folks think thats anything other than killing.

Animals aren't personal playthings one gets to exercise one's ego on... throwing a spear at an elk is so irresponsible on so many levels it's hard to know where to start.
What's next, hurling rocks on animals to mimic our cave-dwelling ancestors? Maybe we could drive a herd off a buffalo jump.
Encouraging something so iffy is so far beyond me I can't fathom how anyone could participate in such a stunt, let alone promote it as "sport" to other knuckle-draggers, all to make a buck...
So no, my objection has far less to do with the high fence... which is fairly disgusting in its own right.

A lot of guys spear pigs and some even knife them. Is that unsporting, unethical and so forth? Just curious where you guys draw the line.
I have no problem with spearing an elk in general. High fence hunting however, that's a different matter.

We butchered our pigs for years by cutting the juglar... nothing wrong with that.
There are opinions and then there is legal. Long as its legal, its up to the person doing it, not us really.
I've knifed hogs before that are bayed by dogs.
Then if you think about it without letting emotions get the best of you, if you don't think spearing is ethical, then neitehr is bowhunting, they kill exactly the same way. And to take that a bit furhter, most rifle kills are by bleeding and animal out also... not much different in many respects that if you choose a 270 or 300 mag to do the bleeding or a Zwickey or a Muzzy, or whatever.
Humane death is the object.
The iffy part of it falls into practice... I'd take a practiced person throwing a spear under the right circumstances than the weekend warrior flinging bullets as fast as they can at 100 yards at a deer, with a bore sighted scope and no practice.... and there are more of those than spearchuckers.
Its also a reason I'm actually a propenent of a shooting ability test for any weapon....but most folks argue against that...

He got sick of spearing Packers QB's. It was too easy, he needed a challange.

Had I been using a spear, I'm sure I could have taken at least 3 free roaming elk over the years. In each instance, I saw them coming and they passed within 6 to 8 feet. Not my cup of tea though, so no desire to ever give it a try.

High fence elk are not for me, regardless of the method used. I don't care for high fence anything. Wonder how long it will take for someone to claim we threaten to divide all hunters and allow the antis to defeat us all? Hogwash. High fences BLOW! +1 I'm sure he would have been arrested if it wasn't high fence..........the dude sucks.
