I am setting my bucket/coni sets in VERY good coon locations. Seeing many coons while deer hunting and seeing a lot of coon sign. So far I have caught only two coons to seven possums. What am I doing wrong if anything?

Setting my buckets right on the creeks and streams. I am using peanut butter, grape jelly or marshmellow cream for bait.

I don't think you're doing anything wrong, because that is a dang good set up that catches raccoons (and greasy ol possums, too).

When I am really bent on grinners and nothing else, I use those duffer coon traps, because those raccoons have to reach in and pull the trigger outward to set them off. Their paws are kind of like our hands in that they have a good grip, so they will fart around with that trigger trying pull off a fat marshmellow or get to some tuna behind it.

I thought about getting a few to try out. May just have to pull the trigger on some.

Put 'em in the water. "Coons are there anyway and 'possums don't like it.

Thanks guys. I've read a ton of stuff in the last few weeks. Last week I only had out eight 220 bucket sets and got seven coons, two more possums and another skunk! Starting using bacon drippings over bread. It worked well.

Kinda a hijack, but here is a picture of the last coon my grandfather caught before he died. Now bear in mind, he trapped all his life, and I cannot even begin to think how many coons he got. (He was a commercial fisherman and trapper in Fairview, Pa.)

I havn't used bait for coons since I was a kid. Find a tree or whatever growing at the edge of some water with half the trunk on land and half in the water. A coon traveling the water edge will nearly always go around in the water. Very seldom catch a possum.
