Mich Hhunter:
Try one of the whistle calls. The one I use is Primos original. Small washer disc that supposedly imitate young squirrel distress. The key is too use a leafy branch or limb making a swishing sound on the ground or in the air, while making the short distress call
Not a 100% sure thing, but when works can get a lot of action of the 'come running' type.
Recall a evening six years ago, thought I was going to get 'run over' by a coyote, deer and squirrel stampede for a couple of minutes.
That episode resulted in two coyotes on the ground and a bag limit of squirrel.

I believe you are right with the "Mr. Squirrel" name.
Faintly recall Will Primos had a story on the package. His Uncle had shown him how to make one when Will was young child, and the use of the 'whish' branch while calling.
The 'whish' was supposed to imitate a young squirrel trying to evade a predator, IRC.

The best call, is quiet.
Get in a good location, and SIT STILL for 30-45 minutes.
If no action; move a 1/4 mile or so. Exactly what I do.

I never used a call, I'll have to give that a try. I always as was stated, find a likely spot and sit quietly. If no action after a spell I move on. I generally take a little portable lightweight stool to help be still and for position.
