Which one would you choose? The remington comes with a 26 inch barrel where as the vanguard only has the 24 inch barrel.

I'd take the Remington. The Howa's are a little "Big Boned" for me.

I've got the vanguard - someone gave it to me and due to sentimental value can't get rid of it. i'd go with the remington every time if i were buying one.

I wish my Vanguard was as light as a Remington, but the quality of my Vanguard is irreplaceable...

My Remington SPS 257 Roy shoots unbelievably with factory 100 grain TSX's. The metal was sent off this week to be cerakoted and I have an Edge stock on order for it. I love that thing!

Personally I could work with either but I'd prefer the 700 with a Ti take off wrapped around it.

curious - for the vanguard fans - which pattern mcmillan would you put on a standard vanguard with a slim 24" barrel?

Anyone try the cdl stainless, fluted in .257? Thinking I may look into one. . .Unless you guys think it isn't worth the extra cash?

Probably re-stock it at some point to a lightweight...

Can't comment on the Remmy as I haven't tried one in that caliber, but I have the Vanguard. I wouldn't trade it for anything. I picked it up for a song with the tupperware stock and quickly replaced it with one of Weatherby's tan/black-web pillar-bed stocks. Also replaced the trigger with a Timney, which upgraded to a three-posiiton safety. It is now one of my most accurate rifles and has taken a pile of game. I have flashier stuff, but truth be told, it's one of my all-time favorite deer/pronghorn rifles.

Here's my 257 WBY Vanguard in a McMillan Weatherby Mark V stock; as for the weight, geez, a few ounces won't hurt you!

What's the weight and how does it balance with the Edge and the 26" barrel?

What scope?

I recently picked up a SPS myself, having a hell of a time deciding how to scope it though? Next year I was giving some thought to upgrading the stock.

I know you werent asking me, but I thought I'd throw you out an option, I put a VX-III 3.5-10x40 on mine, plenty of scope. Made a 425 yard shot on a Caribou without a hitch!

I have the CDL in the Roy. I stuck it in a B&C Medalist but want to glass it yet. Here are groups from 2 different days with 72 and 73 Gr. RL 25 and 100 gr.TXS. I always vote for the Remmy.

Another vote for the SPS, if you can find one. Haven't heard of one yet that wouldn' drive tacks.

Here's my Vanguard. Timney trigger and Weaver Granslam 3.5x10x40. Shoots 85 Ballistic Tips and 100 TSXs into .5" groups. Get whichever you like they are both solid.
