Just got this one home. CZ 550 in 375 H&H, wearing their humpback stock that someone had stripped and refinished and added a Limbsaver recoil pad to. I fitted it with a Zeiss 1.8-5.5 Conquest scope in Burris rings and the rifle is a nicely balanced 10.6lbs! A bit chunky, but just fine for the range. If I decide to hunt this gun it'll lost at least a pound and a half; switching to a Leupold 2.5 or 3x would drop 8-10 ounces pretty quick.

The former owner disabled the set trigger and put the pull weight at 4lbs, very crisp so I'll leave it be. The gun also cycles very smoothly which is common with older CZs from the first years of importation by CZ-USA.

CZ puts some nice wood on their guns, once you get the thick finish off. The gun is heavy, but balances well and comes up quick. The view through the Zeiss at 1.8 is very clear and the cross-hairs sit right on top of the sight hood.

Now to hit the loading bench....

Congrats! At 10.6 lbs it should be a pussycat to shoot ... My 500 Jeffery weighs 12 lbs with scope and I take it elk hunting ...

smile

Lookin GOOD! My regular caliber Elk and Deer guns weigh in at 10-11 lbs. My CZ in 416 R is right at 12, goes all over the place.

Might want to get an Ed LaPour 3 position safety and a non Bubba'ed trigger such as a NECG or Timney before hunting the big guys.

You CZ has better wood than what I have seen on a CZ in quite a while. Congrats.

Very nice. I regret trading my American Safari off when I see these. Think if I were to do it again, I'd go for the hogback. Just lookslike it belongs there. Gotta love the CZ's smile

I have a hogback take off from a 416. If you're interested I can shoot some pics this week and email them to you.

Looks nice. How long is the barrel on that rifle?

Barrel is the factory 25" tube; the muzzle "hangs" well even with the heavy scope mounted. Balance is right on the front action ring.

I would be interested in how that stock design handles the recoil. Better or worse than the straight "American" design that they also offer.?

Better, in my experience, mainly because the sloping comb directs recoil away from the face.
