I have just scored a sweet new rifle from the classifieds here on the 'fire and wondering if anybody has ever loaded for this cartridge.

I found a fair little bit of info on the web by searching its various names (6mm-250, 6mm International) but they mostly utilized powders I don't have. I'd be grateful for loads ya'll have to offer, but specifically looking for stuff using RL-15, -19, and IMR-4350 if y'all have experience w/ such powders.

Thanks a lot,

efw

For RL-15, start with reduced Varget data and work up. For IMR 4350, use reduced H4350 data and work up. H4350 and Varget data is on the Hodgdon website mentioned previously.

I have a 6mm Int in a Rem 40XB that carries a Rem 24X target scope; nice shooting rig. But, the twist is 14 in., I've never even tried to shoot anything heavier than 80 gr. and lighter with 4064 and Varget. The 6mm-250 isn't the same cartridge; the Int. has the shoulder set back about .1" from the .250 location.

The biggest problem you gonna have is forming cases for the (Walker) International. I made my own "forming die set" by modifying four other sizing dies because the form dies from RCBS were far too rich for my wallet.

Tell us your chamber is 6 Int or 6-250, and twist rate and I'll try to provide some data. But I can tell you now, 4350 is too slow if you have a 14 twist.

BT,

Thanks. I haven't actually got a hold of the rifle yet. I'll provide the info you request as soon as I do.

Thanks all,

Looks like it likely has a 10" twist...

I meant to pick up some 90 gr NBTs yesterday and grabbed E-Tips of the same weight by mistake. I also picked up Hornady 75 gr HPs, and intend to get either some 87 gr HPs, 90 gr NBTs, or 100 gr Interlocks.

Anybody worked with these in this cartridge yet?

I did find quite a bit of load info in the Sierra manual that shows IMR-4895 and H-380 as star performers. Seems like RL-15 would be great with the mid-weight bullets, but an email to Alliant got me nothin'. Similarly, I'm thinking TAC would be a great one, maybe Big Game too?

Any assistance y'all could offer would be greatly appreciated!

I use IMR 4895 with either 70 Gr. or 75 Gr. Ballistic tips or VMAX'S - can't remember.

I'll check my load data and let you know later tonight, hopefully.

Here are several loads for the 6x250 Savage from LoadData.com.
There are several hundred more for the 6mm Intl. there as well.
Great website, well worth the subscription cost.

Warning! Notes: 26-inch barrel - 1-in-12-inch twist. Three-shot groups at 100 yards unless otherwise noted. CAUTION! These loads were safe in the author's rifle but must be backed off 20 percent and worked up again in any other rifle. (Handloader Issue 144)

A "6mm int'l" may not be a 6mm-250 Savage! Caution is suggested until your certain what the chamber is.

For instance I have shot a 6mm Remington International since 1966 and the shoulder is pushed back quite far on the 250 Savage case. The load above using IMR 3031 would be an overload for the 70 gr bullet in my rifle.

The loads above from LoadData are specifically for the 6mm x250 Savage.
Like most wildcats, chambers can vary considerably and therefore the admonition in the text above to start 20% lower and work up.

Mine is a 6mm-250 which was named 6mm Int'l. Based upon the limited research I've done, I think (but am not certain) that the cartridge that Savage 99 is referring to is the "Walker" version of the cartridge. It is a 6mm-250 with the shoulder sharpened to 30 degrees and bumped back a hair to create a longer neck, thereby also decreasing case capacity.

Mine is a 6-250, so your numbers are a reliable guideline for me.

Thanks again guys,

efw

PS- I see, after actually inspecting what Savage 99 put up there, that his "Remington Int'l" has a 26 degree shoulder... there are many, many iterations of this one...

Mine is a 6mm-22/250. Is that the same as a 6mm-250?

Neck on mine is standard 22/250 necked up to 6mm and doesn't look like the diagram above.

Yes it is the same as the 6mm-250 but is different than the 6mm Intl.
