I just finished up a 130gr. TTSX load in my 24in. 270 WSM last week. Chrono'd 15 rounds which averaged 3,361 fps and had a spread of only 27 fps.

I use Norma brass, Fed 215M's and RL 22........never had ANY issues with reloading, function or reliability in any of my WSM's(3).

Good luck..........

That's what I see too. I've used this load in probably 30 different .270's using 130 gr NBT's. Its consistently 1MOA or better. JOC had it right with this combination.

Warrior, what barrel are you running on your 270 Winchester? Just curious...

I would try some RL 25 in the 270 WSM.

I have seen 3200 in the 270 Winchester with the 130 gr Barnes XLC and 65 gr of RL 25,from a 22" barreled M70 Classic. This was the Barnes max with that bullet.

I only fired a couple of rounds to cause as always I was in a rush. It just seems fast to me as I'm trying to break 3200 with my buddies .270wsm using a 130 barnes tipped magnum win primers and imr7828 max loads from nosler book. It should be over 3300 or so but only gets about 3100 with his 25 inch sako A7. I know its plenty fast, but you know.. Is there a better powder I should use for the 270wsm?

Long barrels are a great equalizer.........my 25 inch bbl 270W does 3200fps with 60grs of H4831 long cut and 130gr BT's pretty easy.

Probably not much diff between a long barreled 270W and a 270WSM.......

I might have to try some of the RL25, if I can get my hands on some. QL is showing it doing good things.

OK, thanks!

Those are good velocities wink

Calvin, I figure if the RL25 works well in the standard 270,and in the 7RM, it should be good in the 270WSM as well.....

I also recall that Ross Seyfried wildcatted the 270 WSM off the 300WSM case before the 270 became "standard",and that R25 was among the better powders for it.

OK, ive heard of this but this is the first time ive seen it. Seems my .270wsm loads were slow, but only in my friends Sako A7. We shot the same loads through a new Savage his father owns and speed went from 3100 or so in the Sako to 3300+ and 3450+ with a max load of IMR 4350 using 130grain bullets. I guess the Sako is just slow?

Not true - just have to use a neck sizing die, NOT a FL die!!!

That may very well be the case with the WSM but my 270win works fine sizing just the neck in a FL die. As do all my other -06 based cartridges.

Warrior that is not uncommon....velocities can vary widely rifle to rifle, and I think throats, leade, and internal barrel dimensions, number of lands and grooves, material, and finish have the biggest effect, assuming the same bullet and load. These all affect the resistance the bullet encounters as it travels down the bore.

This is why one guy will say a 270WSM is not much faster than a 270 Win,and another will say it's as fast as a 270 Weatherby.

I really don't want to a new thread about 270 loads, but I'm interested in using H4350 with 130gr GMX bullets. Anybody using H4350 with 130gr bullets? I'm thinking around 55gr- 56gr would be max.

That would indeed be about max.

The most I've been able to squeeze out of a 20" Finnlite has been 2950. In my 22" M700 it's been 3100. I've loaded for a few other 22" bbld 270s and none have done any better.

I loaded 53.5 of H4350 with a fed magnum primer and the 130 GMX. Didn't clock it but it gave me .318" at 115 metres for three shots.
Same load also very accurate with the Sierra Gameking in the 130gn.
