Have shot 165 NPT in 30-06 through elk twice, both pass throughs.

My huntin buddy has killed 26 bulls with a 30-06 and 165np, no problems and no lost elk.

Depends on the terrian where you hunt...I have used the 165 gr. Hornady and Nosler partition on elk in my Sav. 99 .308, when I am hunting horseback in the open sage sidehills and they worked fine..

If I am hunting my favoriet haunt in the really thick black timber in the Selway, I want my 338 with 300 gr. PP Woodleighs as all shots are going away from you or looking at you over thier shoulder..The 338 really lays them down with a 300 gr. Woodleigh and they do not go to the bottom of a drainage and cause me all that grief..

Amen to that fact Mr. A! Yep, there is nothing like a heavy bullet for those Texas Heart Shots. Ya just gotta love that .338 win mag.
