working up some 300 weatherby load never got to good of a group best was with 89.5 grains of 7828. that only powder i tryed and its 150 btip from nosler
any power or other tips for grouping would be great

This load works well for me. For hunting, I use the same powder charge, etc. with Berger VLD bullets.

I suspect you'll get better accuracy from bullets heavier than 150 gr. I use 165 gr. and 168 gr. bullets in my 300 Weatherby Magnum. Another bullet I haven't used in my 300 Weatherby but one that might be worth a try that gives me excellent results in a 300 Winchester Magnum is the Nosler 200 gr. Accubond.

Best accuracy load in my .300 Wby. uses 165 gr. Barnes TSX bullets, ahead of RL22 powder and CCI 250 primers. I won't give the powder weight, but MV is 3400 fps. Plenty fast, but accurate.

this was my budys gun.my budy went and shot the load agin today one inch group. think im gona look inot rl22 and 168 grain bergers for mine gone get orderd and wait a mnt or so i guess

i use rem brass cci 250 primer 83gr of h4831 and 150gr speer hotcore or hornady interlock after i burn this pound of 4831 i am going to try rl22 or h1000 with 180gr

83gr RL 22, Fed 215, Rem case, 168 gr TSX 3250 fps. Depending upon the source, that may or may not be a max load. The rifles I've tried this in shoot MOA or better. Kills game too. YMMV

i was readin about poepel useing 87 and 88 grains of rl-22

My load is taken from one of JB's "Loads That Work" articles: 180 grain Scirocco II, 83.5 grains of IMR 7828, R-P cases and CCI Magnum Primers. It chronographs 3,250 fps ten ft from the muzzle and will consistently group three shots around 3/4" from my semi-custom Weatherby Vanguard. I have taken two bull elk with this load and both were one-shot kills. My step-son used it to take a nice Coues whitetail at right around 400 yds (we ranged the shot after the fact). The bullets are seated as far out as they can be and still work reliably through the magazine. YMMV...

u know the bullet seating over all lenth?

As mudhen states, load to the max magazine length. Unless its a custom barrel, it should still have more than enough freebore.

I haven't seen a 87 gr. RL 22 load. It probably won't hurt a gun, but case life will be very short. I really don't see the reason for the last 100 fps. I know some awfully good shots, but its unlikely they would care about the difference.

I have worked with the 300 WBY extensively the past 20+ years. I think it is as good a long range thumper as you are going to find without doing something exotic. I never used many 150 grain bullets as the laser range finders make the velocity somewhat meaningless with the ability to dial in your drop. I have shot more 165-168s than all other bullets combined. I think my rifles use about 84-85 grain H4831 with a 165-168. I have a short throated chamber so my velocities with this powder charge will likely be higher than yours.

With 150s I had best luck with R19 and VV N550. I could get 3600+ out of my current rifle with 150s. Factory 150s were 3700 but are too hot considering my short throat.

7828 in NOT a good powder for 150s. You are better with H4350, H4831 or R19 if you want speed. R22 is decent but not quite as fast. Highest velocities are with n560 but with the outrageous prices they are getting for that powder now, I have discontinued using it.

165s were best at 3450 ish. This was easy with H4831 and N560.

Never shot many 180s. Shot some 200s a long time ago and used H870 @ 3000 fps in a 24" barrel. H870 is a horribly dirty powder. I would not try R22, 7838, H1000 or Magnum with 200s.

Several .330 Wthby rifles have shot well with 180 gr Partitions and 82 to 85 gr of IMR 7828. Work up to the higher loads, of course. I am going to start on a load with the 168 gr TSX, but may try a different powder with that bullet.

If you want a LR load, try a 200 grain accubond and RL22.

About 3,120 fps out of my rifle.
