Local Cabela's has .270 and .30-06 Sako 85 Finnlight's on sale for $999.99, regularly $1,199.99. Cabela's gun prices are usually a little high to start with, so I'm wondering if the sale price is decent? Thoughts on these rifles? Thinking about one in .270 Win.

Thats a great price. I see on gunbroker there trying to get $1586.

I have been the owner of Sako 85 in 25/06 for a week so take this for what its worth. I own several sako 75's in stainless/synthetic and prerer the sako 75 stock. Sako has changed the stock on the new 85 for this year and I prefer it better than the old sako 85 stock but still don't like it as much as the original sako 75 stock.

As far as the action it is alot like the sako 75 and I like it alot. The sako 85 also has a new magazine release that I like alot.

For $1000 you can't go wrong with a sako 85.

About the only time I've seen them cheaper was when Sako discontinued the 85 in .338 Federal and a fire sale ensued.

I wasn't aware Cabelas had them for $1,100 or whatever to begin with, that sounds more like the price on the 75.

Anyone tell me what a .270 might weigh? Everything I find online is in grams.

Here's their sales flyer (it's on the second page).

Just make sure that you are comparing apples to apples. Sako recently updated the stock on the finnlight and is now selling them as the Finnlight ST (soft touch). I am assuming that the ones on sale at cableas have the old stock.
$1000 is still a great buy, as most places are getting $1200 for the model 85 finnlights with the old stocks.

What's the difference between the stocks? I held one in my hands and it has soft panels in the grip and forearm.

GreatWaputi...The first 85 has a hard "plastic" type stock. The newer stock is much softer. I looked at one of the Sako finnlights at Cabela's the other day and it had the newer stock on it.

The only thing that bothers me about finnlight is the 20 1/2 inch barrel.

I'm pretty sure the new Finlights have standard lenght sporter barrels. I think it changed with the introduction of the 85's. 75 finnlights had the shorties.

If it's not a discontinued chambering a grand is a good price on a 85 especially if it's new in the box.

I'm having my 270 win sako finnlight converted to 9.3x62 at the moment. Those 270's have ~22 inch barrels, and tend to like 140 grain accubonds.

Disclaimer: I have not handled a new finnlight ST. From what I have read, the new stock has a redesigned grip with palm swell, and a nonslip treatment on the entire stock (I'm assuming like the duratouch, or remington alaskan's have). Both old and new have the rubber inserts. I am not sure if there are any other differences.

I've got both the older and newer version stocks - I like the newer ones much more.

I have one of the new stainless synthetics in 7mm08 with the soft touch stock. Stock fit is certainly an improvement on the older model 85.Aesthetically they look a heck of a lot better to.

Obviously sako was taking note of all the criticism of there older 85 stock.

You guys have a pic of the new 85 stock?

I handled what I thought was a new 85(stock had a monte carlo shape), other than the monte carlo it felt just like the old 85 stock(same material).

And $1000 is a great price, the Finnlight 85(ST?) I looked at was around $1400 or $1500?

Only the shape of the new synthetic stocks has changed. The 85 finnlight had the rubberized stock always. The new versions "ST" have a slimmer wrist and monte carlo stock. But both versions are rubber overmold type material.
