Reloader 15 works great in my rifle. Anyone try R17 and the 260's?

Can you seat the 260's out past the cannelure? When seated to the cannelure (I have to with my rifle), the 260's resting atop 71 gr. RL 15 in either Remington or Federal cases is a compressed load. I'd be surprised if a slower powder really offers any advantages if the load is already compressed.

I seat mine as long as I can and still have them feed reliably through the magazine (in a Wby Mk V with a really long throat). I have never had any problems with bullets setting back in the cases.

I have to seat mine to cannelure not because of set-back, but because that's all the magazine length I have. While I have a compressed load at this point, I will tell you, though, since I do have to seat to that length, I go ahead and put a mild crimp on both AB and TSX.

3sixbits: I am partial to pure copper jackets and bonded cores myself. smile

The 280 Remington is overbore.

The 7 Rem Mag is over bore.

The 300 grainers grouped a lot better out of my gun, but I'm talking factory loads. For my hunt this year I decided to save a little time and try some different factory ammo and found the best results with Nosler Custom ammo. Many of the factory loads in the 260, including Nosler Custom, were jamming hard into the lands and causing extracting problems. Had I been handloading and could have adjusted the seating depth, I'm sure they would have shot better. 300 grainers grouped nice 1-1.5" triangles with most loads.

The old screw machine Partitions I have are not copper. In fact they look brassier than most contemporary bullet jackets. Copper is the majority element in them all though regardless the alloy.

I have some old screw machine 150 gr. 30 cal. I would agree, they are most certainly not copper. If I were to guess, I would say, just as you've observed, brass. Brass is much easier to machine since it doesn't tear like Cu.

The most interesting kill I ever made was with one of these in a .300 Wby. I shot a really big whitetail doe (150 lb) through the heart. She leapt twice, stood still, quivered, then her rear slowly sank to the ground. Its doubtful she ever knew what hit her.

Hello 375Ruger,

I like a lot this 260 gr NP bullet! My best load is 84 grs AA4350 with CCI250 primers in WW cases. OAl at the cannelure. In my Win 70 Pre64 with 25" barrel, the velocity measured at 12 feet is 2810 fps average. With very good accuracy of around 2,5" at 200 meters dead on.

I have used that bullet on a lot of plainsgame and its a good enough bullet..I like IMR-4064, RL-15 and IMR-4350 in my .375s.

I still prefer the 300 gr. bullets int he 375 for everything..If I want to shoot a lighter bullet I will drag out the .338 Win.
