Maybe this is normal but I'm not sure so hopefully you can help. I ran a box of standard .280 Remington Core-Lokt through my 280AI this afternoon and noticed that the brass has the shiny ring just forward of the rear of the case. I can also just feel it with my finger nail. I was hoping to reload the cases for my 280AI but now I'm not sure. I am a little worried about too much stretching and case head separation. Any thoughts?

Thanks,

Have you sized the cases in the picture? Make a tool to check inside the case, paper clip works well, for any beginnings of seperation. Did you fire factory rounds to generate the AI's?Rick.

The cases in the picture were not reseized, however they are now. They were factory 280 ammo that I fired in my 280AI. I will check with a paper clip on the inside of case.

Thanks,

I couldn't feel anything weird with the paperclip so I cut one open just to see. It looks ok unless I am missing something?

A bulge where the case goes from being solid to open space inside is not unusual

It just means your chamber is a little larger than it could be. Does not mean that it is over Saami spec and is not a sign of beginning of case head separation.

Actually you are lucky in that your die will probably be able to size down the pressure ring area and make for easy chambering. My 280AI chamber is very tight and the die does not size the case body and it gets a little tight in the chamber after the 3rd or 4th firing (and no it is not because of contact at the shoulder).
